Rating: Summary: Important and interesting material. Review: I do a lot of travel writing so I bought this book primarily because it had a section on travel safety. But I ended up reading it all. It's written in simple conversational language and the author used plenty of real-life stories and examples to get his points across. The little anecdotes about his experiences as a police officer were entertaining and enlightening. I highly recommend it. It could save your life.
Rating: Summary: A Must-Have Book Review: I heard the author on the G.Gordon Liddy radio show and was impressed, so I got the book. I found it to be an easy read, packed with useful tips and advice on many subjects, such as protecting children, dealing with stalkers (men and women), violence in the workplace and travel safety, as well as popular security topics like home and car security. The author is a former police officer and corporate security director, and he uses fascinating, sometimes humorous anecdotes throughout the book to illustrate important points. The book is well organized by topic, but before getting into specifics, Rawls discusses the psychology of criminals and how they choose their victims. Like Gavin De Becker's "The Gift of Fear," this book also covers the importance of developing and using your own instincts to stay safe. But unlike De Becker, Rawls offers succinct, easy-to-remember tips for staying safe, many that I'd not heard of before. A very good book that's timely and answers a lot of the personal security questions we all have on our minds these days.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book -- What everyone must know to stay safe. Review: I heard the author on the G.Gordon Liddy radio show and was impressed, so I got the book. Rating: Summary: Better get this book! Review: I live and work close to an urban area where crime is becoming a problem. I also have my own personal stalker (I am not a victim!). I've been reading quite a few books on personal security and THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST! It is broken down into chapters focusing on becoming "streetwise," security in the home, at work, in your car, traveling, meeting and dating people and protecting our children. It also covers natural disasters and acts of terrorism. The author, Neal Rawls, writes from experience, having been a police officer and now a corporate security director. He provides examples of how people are conned, threatened and just plain unaware of what is going on around them within each chapter, THEN, he provides concise and practical advice on how to protect yourself and those you care for. It's a great kick in the pants to remind ourselves to be just as it says. Big print, so fast reading and some drawings to show examples. Better get this book!
Rating: Summary: Good Title, Old Information! Review: The author does a good job of disguising recycled safety information under an intriguing title. The book touches on different safety topics but the author lacks a 'street' mind.
I guest when you think of it all books have something good but this one has allot of words saying nothing to try and get the reader to believe they are learning something.
This subject has many books written from proven professionals that were SEALS, Cops or Elite Bodyguards. In my law enforcement opinion I would do some more research before I committed to a book like this.
Very disappointed to say the least!
Rating: Summary: Important Useful Information Review: This book has lots of tips and tricks that have made me feel more confident about my own safety at home especially. I learned that bad situations can be avoided if you are conscious of your environment. I gave the book to my teenage daughter so she can learn to become aware and be better able to take care of herself. The book is easy to read and understand, and give lots of stories that show how the techniques work. I really recommend this, especially for women.
Rating: Summary: Terrific book! Review: This book is filled with excellent information that we all need to know. Everyone should read the chapter entitled "The Prudent Traveler" before going on their next trip! I learned a lot from this book and I'm definitely getting additional copies for my family.
Rating: Summary: Useful, interesting information in a well-organized format Review: This book is hard to put down! Easy to read and full of great information that we all can use in our everyday lives. I really enjoyed the section about how to build a "safe room". Buy this book now!!
Rating: Summary: Better get this book! Review: This is the best information I've found about being prepared and protecting yourself from terrorism. It covers evacuation plans, different types of terror attacks and what you can do at home or in public, and gives a lot of good information about gas masks, bio hazard suits, and other things we're all concerned about right now. I highly recommend this book. It offers good survival sense.
Rating: Summary: Necessary reading Review: This was a good book with many different examples but it needed to go further into each topic to be a great book. I still find this necessary reading for everyone.
