All of the examples of things that people should do while training their small dog, helped me understand why I need to do different things while training. Review: We recently adopted a small terrier mix from the local shelter. Since she's our first dog, we have been consulting many books for advice. This one has proven to be one of the very best we've found. Jester's style is personal and frank. She covers all sorts of issues and I have found her insights into the "whys" of dog behavior very helpful. I was especially grateful for her listing of the different stages a dog goes through after it joins a new family. They were right on target!
