Summary: A Nice Try
Review: "World of My Little Pony" is an unofficial guide to the original My Little Pony collectibles from the 1980's. The book does list most ponies distributed in the U.S., with pictures of each pony group, and gives estimated prices for them.

The book is poorly organized. Instead of organizing sets by year, they are split into "Adult" and "Baby" categories, and then the sets are alphabetized within those chapters. The problem is that Birge sometimes creates names for sets or ponies, so they do not appear where one would expect within the book. Much of the information is incomplete or simply wrong, especially regarding accessories. The text is often awkward, indicating poor editing. The price guide is also inaccurate, and applies prices to all ponies within a group, even though individual ponies may sell for much higher prices than other ponies from the same set.

While the pictures are clear, they are not pleasing to the eye. Many of the ponies appear to be unkempt. Sometimes they are not posed where their symbols, or identifying markers, can be seen in the photos. There was also some bizarre use of MLP accessories as props in the photos, such as using upturned cribs as stands.

Finally, the book only covers U.S.-releases. Birge's second book, often confused with this one in customer reviews, covers ponies from other parts of the world.

The book is a nice attempt, and I use it occasionally when I can't remember a pony's name. If someone needs a good introduction to MLP, however, there are many websites that offer more complete, and more accurate, information at no cost. This book simply isn't worth the price.

Summary: Not perfect, but a nice read!
Review: A lot of people really down on this book. True, it's not the best source of information... and yes, a lot of the names and price guide are WAY off (The most common made-up name: Dum Dum De Dum for one of the Bride ponies, and for a minty mail order Rapunzel, she lists it as $50. Try $500!), but using it as a pony ID guide and just to look at all the ponies from the US, it's pretty cool!

If you want this book as a price guide, it's really outdated, so I wouldn't recommend it in that field. But if you want to look at all the ponies released in the 80's, it's a great guide!

Summary: Great Book!
Review: Although prices might have fluctuated from printing, this is still such a solid resource on My Little Pony. Clear, concise descriptions accompany beautifully done photographs, which illustrate many versions of the classic pastel equines. Also included are several examples of MLP items that non-pony, such as accessories, radios, sleeping bags, and more. Debra also writes about foreign ponies, given well sought information to even the most experienced collector.

I use this often to identify ponies, rather than having to search through fan databases on the internet. Hopefully, they'll be a second edition with even more foreign ponies. Well worth your money, it will help you with your collection over and over again.

Summary: Online Sites are better!
Review: For a beginner to pony collecting this book is a great start. However, the more you learn about ponies, the more you realise that increasing numbers of facts in this book are wrong. The pictures are nice to look at, but are not the best quality.
Hopefully a better book will come along!

Summary: Nice Book
Review: I like the glossy pages. The ponies in the photos are not well groomed to have their picture taken. Yes it's a great book to browse through and look at. The prices are not completely correct. It's a great book to learn the basic names and symbols of ponies. Some of the ponies are grouped together in photos so you're not able to see the whole side of their body.

Summary: ...
Review: I would give it no stars if I could, but I don't have that option. It's great if you just want to see pictures but there's nothing else in this book that I would buy it for....So if you just want pictures and nothing else, then you should get this book. Otherwise it is a waste of money.

Summary: Could have gotten better info off internet
Review: Not a fan of this book. I find it to be pretty incomplete... I read it a while ago so maybe I wasn't paying enough attention. All in all I'd say don't waste your money and find info for free off the internet. - keatonj.

Summary: My Little Pony--a GREAT book for the MLP Lover !
Review: This is a GREAT "detailed" My Little Pony Book. "The World of My Little Pony, A Guide to Pony Collectibles", is a MUST have for any MLP Lover. Although this book has only the American Ponies, the pictures of the Ponies lets you catalog your collection in no time. Find the Ponies you are missing or name the Ponies you have. There are great pictures of Ponies MIB or MIP too. There are MANY, MANY other My Little Pony items not listed but this book really gives one a better insight into the Pony World. This book does have other items pertaining to My Little Pony like the play-sets and videos, audio tapes, and Pony clothing. It also has Pony purses, sleeping bags, skates, etc. I believe you will find this book very informative. This book also has a pricing guide but REMEMBER, just because it says how much a Pony would cost in the book, prices ONLY reflect the authors view. If you need a particular pony-you will pay more...if you have 2 or 3 of the same pony laying around-you will pay less. The old adage goes here of beauty is in the eye of the beholder--the same goes for $$ amounts. The author, Debra Birge, did a Wonderful job-thank you Debra for bringing our beloved Ponies back to life.

Summary: Great Comprehensive guide to pony collectibles
Review: This is a wonderful book for anybody interested in My Little Pony. These small collectibles are becoming one of the hottest items on the second hand market. If you are only a starting collector or and avid one, this book is for you. It conatins pictures of over 630 ponies, and even includes variations, pony friends, and the such. Not only are these wonderful pictures included, but so are playsets, clothing, and other collectibles such as movies, clocks, keychains, posters ect. This is a well written book and is needed for any fan. All should be greatful to the author, Debra for doing such a great job. The only thing off may be the price guide. Different collectors offer different prices. However with indexed names, it is easy to calculate your collection in no time. I reccomend this book to any pony collector!

Summary: The Pros and the Cons
Review: This new book, World of My Little Pony: An Unauthorized Guide for Collectors, written by Debra L. Birge, was indeed a valiant effort. However, it falls flat despite its promise. Birge gives us a horrible price guide. This holds key prices for the 1980's. Hello, and wake up! Collectors would like at least a price listing estimate for what the ponies and other accessories are worth today. Knowing what they were worth then does us very little good now.

The one thing I do like about this book is the many photographs. Although they're not the best ( I've seen better on fan websites) it's still a bright and cheery book to flip through.

I know it's almost impossible to have a complete price guide for the 21st century. However, I still would have liked it if Birge had tried harder to make one. All and all, this book is better for someone who is getting back into (or is new) when it comes to collecting MLP. I would like to give this book five stars but I can't. Some of the facts are wrong and some things are out of date. I would have liked it if Debra had done some more research.
