Rating: Summary: Follow Training/Water Guide -- Forget Everything Else! Review: .... I really gave this the best shot. RESULTS: not a disaster, but a BIG letdown from the results I was previously getting from my other workout routine & eating plan. MY NEGATIVE COMMENTS: This program is designed for the already relatively fit woman. You can tell that just from the many photos he uses for before & after. First, though not the only indicator of fitness, these women are quite thin. Not only thin (each one right in the ranges of a healthy weight for their height/age/gender), but a good many were already nicely muscled. .... This program is NOT for overweight women trying to lose fat. It actually advicates that you NOT do cardio! I fell for it -- I gave it a go. Didn't work. .... POSITIVE COMMENTS: I love the super-slow training method.! Cannot say enough good things about it. Of course, you don't need Darden's book to learn that, but it's a good way to get started. .... ....Darden insists you have to drink it ice cold, sleep in cold air, dip your body in cold water -- all in an effort to get the body to burn extra calories.... Why not just put on a sweatshirt and head for the track once or twice? You'd be much better off -- heart and lung-wise, not just fat loss wise. NEUTRAL POINTS: The eating plan won't kill you. Easy to use, since it names name-brands and you can go to any local supermarket to stock up. But it is boring beyond belief. He makes a nod in the direction of vegetarian options, but they were silly. If I'd tried his tips for vegetarian substitutions, I'd have ended up under nourished as well as disapointed. So, my bottom line: will continue to do the super-slow technique, drink the gallon of water, but get back to the real work required to lose fat, strengthen my heart & lungs, and drop the kind of pounds an overweight person needs to stay motivated. ....
Rating: Summary: Body Defining : Drop Pounds, Firm Flab & Maximize Lean Muscl Review: Dr. Darden's program really works for middle-aged people who have let themselves slip! My husband and I both are following the recommended meal plan and superhydration and are faithfully working out with weights three times a week. I follow the body-defining exercises with dumbells Dr. Darden has outlined, while my husband does his own workout on our home weight equipment. We are just beginning week 5; he has lost 14 lbs and I've lost 12 lbs. We are both looking and feeling a lot better and are regaining strength lost over the years. I "stumbled" onto this book while looking for weight training guidance to use our new equipment. This was a wonderful find and I've recommended the book to many friends and coworkers. This plan has particularly made us aware of our eating habits and has changed us for life!
Rating: Summary: It worked for me Review: I bought this book after having my first child. I hadn't gained an excessive amount of weight during my pregnancy, but I had a few extra pounds to lose and some flab that needed firming. It's a very simple and sensible diet and exercise program to follow. In the end I weighed less than I did before I got pregnant and had a nice lean look as well.
Rating: Summary: Not for the quick-fix generation, only hard workers. Review: I bought this book not with the intension of losing weight, but the idea of gaining muscle and improving my overall shape. I'm only on week 3 now, but already I can see and feel results. The superslow method really works and I am so motivated to get to the gym to improve on my resistance level. If you want a gimmicky book, this isn't for you, but if you're willing to put in the work, there will be some amazing results for you.I haven't followed the diet , but the exercise program certainly is a boost for me to eat healthy, why put in the work at the gym to undo it at the dinner table. This book is worth the money in information alone. I think every woman needs to read the truth about fat, cellulite and the real way to rid ourselves of it. A good buy.
Rating: Summary: Super Slow is the fastest route to gaining positive results Review: I have been going to a gym for the last two years and have utilized personal trainers for the majority of this time. I was taught that pyramiding with increased weights would help me achieve my goals. Once I no longer had a personal trainer, I realized there was no way I could exercise alone and lift those heavy weights, which would only get heavier. I felt discouraged and didn't know what to do. Fortunately, I heard of Super Slow, Dr. Darden, and Ken Hutchins and began reading all materials available to me. It is true that proper diet, drinking a lot of water, and exercising the Super Slow way is beneficial to all people who enjoy exercising and lifting weights. Being able to exercise three times per week using lighter weights, not doing aerobics, and staying less time in the gym all enhance the program. I also find that my muscles have not been as sore the next day! I believe in the program and believe if you work it, it will give you the results you desire.
Rating: Summary: It worked for me! Review: I loved Darden's book. One again, he has hit the nail on the head. The more I read, the more I was convinced that his program works...WITHOUT AEROBICS! Now I know why I was so successful some 12 years ago when I first started weightlifting. I was the fattest person in the gym--a bodybuilders gym, no less. Soon I got busy, trained hard using the "old" Nautilus equipment, and did absolutely NO AEROBICS. After 4 months I had a phenominal figure and my muscles were hard and well-defined. I blasted the fat right off those flabby arms, dimpled derrier and thighs, and fatty abdominal region. AND...I still looked very feminime. I loved the new look and so did others! I must say, I look AWESOME! Unfortunatley, I have gained back 20 pounds over the years and now I'm working again towards blasting it off again (at age 42). I know I'll have great results following Darden's super-slow protocol plus incorporating the 1,200 caloric eating plan. Let me know (via e-mail) how your program is coming along. God bless!

Rating: Summary: Flab is good Review: I think you shouldn't buy this book because flab is good. I like to squishe flab because it's very flabby.
Rating: Summary: It worked for me! Review: I too came upon this book while looking for something on weight training. The before and after pictures got my attention as well as the uphill trendline for female weight gain over time. I like being able to exercise effectively in the privacy and convenience of my home. The weight lifting is immediately rewarding as each session brings improvements. After three weeks of exercise and diet, the weight loss and inches lost becomes dramatic. I lost 13 pounds and many inches in six weeks. His diet recommendations are not very practical for someone cooking for a family; I modified the diet recommendations using other resources to maintain a 1200 calorie/day low fat diet. After the initial six weeks I have maintained the weight loss by lifting weights 2-3 times a week. This book appears to be a dumbed down version of the men's book, Living Longer Stronger, which my husband uses, in that it offers far less theory but I wouldn't call that a major drawback. The bottom line is that the program works. I have recommended it to at least 8 others.
Rating: Summary: Flab is good Review: It is a good program and I'm sure it does work as advertised, however there are some drawbacks. First, some of us can't use it. For instance, as a nursing mother I can't superhydrate until after I'm done nursing, nor can I cut my calories as drastically as advocated without jeapordizing my milk supply (I realize this is a temporary problem). My other major difficulty is that it is a 6 week program, and doesn't really provide much information or helpful advice on what to do when you're not following the program. Frankly I'm more interested in what I weigh a year from now, than what I weigh 6 weeks from now. With those quibbles aside though, it's otherwise an excellent book and program.
