Summary: Did OKAY in exam
Review: I did the CLEP exam today. I studied this book and did all the tests at the end, but also followed the advice of previous reviews and read other Psyc books. I did not do marvelously in the test, but I passed with 10 points to spare. So yes, it is great to use the practice exams and see which areas you need to brush up on, but definitely use supplement material - I used "Infants, Children and Adolescents" by Laura E. Berk, and found it very helpful and detailed (as well as interesting). Know the major psychologists and theories, and some biology.

Summary: A crammer's delight
Review: I found this book to be very helpful and manageable. I started studying intensively 2 weeks before the exam and scored 17 points above the required 50. I would recommend using a textbook for the clarification as needed. The book was adequate in discussing Piaget, but it's well worth the extra effort to review a textbook. I also thought the practice exams were more difficult than the actual CLEP exam. So if you can pass the 3 practice exams, the real thing should be a breeze.

Summary: Aced the Human Growth and Dev.
Review: I purchased this book and reviewed all chapters and tests.
I also had a psychology book by Morris which I had used for Introductory psychology. By combining this CLEP book and the text and 2 weeks of preparation, the test was easy. Made a 69 with time to spare. The Human growth test is an extension of psychology as applied to the various stages of development.
If you have taken an Introductory psychology course, it makes the job less painful. Good luck everyone, just do it, use a little commonsense and enjoy the success of your hard work.

Summary: I wouldn't have passed without this book.
Review: I read the book twice, a chapter or two at a time during my lunch hour, and worked the review questions on the weekends until I felt comfortable with the material. It took me approximately two months. The bottom line is I wouldn't have passed the test without this book; it was my only real study guide. I knew very little on the topic when I started reading and in the end scored twelve points above the minimum needed. Just so you know...there were several topics on the exam that I did not see in the book, most were, but not all.

Best of luck to you...

Summary: Try this book - it won't hurt!
Review: I read this book cover to cover and paid attention to the detailed answers in the back. I also supplemented this with a college textbook, which I don't believe I needed...probably wasted my time. CLEP tests are not that difficult; they're well worth the $50 or so. I passed with 16 points above the required 50 and had 42 minutes left on the clock. I saved $350 and spared myself the 3 hours a week in the classroom plus study time. Be sure to make educated guesses on the questions you don't know, points aren't deducted for wrong answers anymore - who knows, you may even guess correctly!!

Try it - I'm sure you'll pass, too! Good luck!

Summary: Not good enough!
Review: I studied this book from cover to cover, passed the exam but...... I guessed most of the answers and felt I just wasted 4 weeks of intensive studying for this test. There were so many questions in the test which the book did not cover at all! I wouldn't have passed without studying an online college course of Human Growth & Development at the same time of going through this book.
When getting ready for the exam don't pay to much attention to any of the human anatomy questions and also don't bother to remember all the names of the scientists and psychologists, this material is hardly covered in the actual exam.
I would definitely recommend studying other material and using this book only to revise your knowledge.

Summary: Great for Intro to Psychology
Review: Looking for compact information for the Intro to Psych CLEP...this is the book to get. I had a text book to read, but decided to read this book and take the sample exams three days before the test and this book was much better than reading a college textbook. Get it, it's worth it! By the way I passed with flying colors!!!

Summary: A Helpful Tool
Review: The Clep Human Growth and Development Guide was helpful in preparing for the test. The guide focuses on every area covered in the test itself. The section on brain anatomy was not tested extensively on the exam. This one area could be less emphasised in preparing for the Clep. I reccomend that future users additionally prepare by studying a traditional textbook. Those who have a foundation in psycology will find the Clep quite easy. By the way, I passed the Clep with ten extra points!

Summary: Human Growth & Developemt Clep Study
Review: This book was an OK source for the Human Growth & Development Exam. As a matter of fact, I spent most of my time studying the Biological and and brain development and those topics were not even on the test. Most of the questions on the test were more common sense than what I learned in this Book.
