Summary: A must-own for any Black woman who wants to be utterly fab!
Review: Black women should read this book with a highlighter, pen, and paper in hand. The tips given by the author are TRULY useful, not like a lot of other "how to be glamorous" books that rehash the same tired advice, like "get a manicure" and "eat expensive chocolate". Raines actually gives you specific resources to turn to on your path to "beautyliciousness", like a reading guide, a list of must-see movies, and quick explanations of how to choose diamonds, furs, and wines. In those explanations, she addresses serious issues that most books and magazines won't touch, like the morality of Blacks buying African conflict diamonds, and the inhumane treatments of animals to create real fur items. She is conscientious enough to address the fact that not all Black women relax their hair and wear acrylic nail tips and hip-hop clothes; Raines actually talks about the many ways in which Black women can choose to express themselves through style, and doesn't make one way more "acceptable" than another. She provides good, solid advice on healthy living, hair care, and spiritual inner happiness. This book is an absolute gem--I reread sections of it on nearly a weekly basis, especially before I go shopping!

Summary: Living Fabulously!
Review: Fun and filled with wonderful tips, author Jenyne M. Raines presents black American queens and princesses with a guide to living the way we were born to. Have a highlighter and a page-marking technique handy because BEAUTYLICIOUS! is chock full of sensational practices and skills you need to know and possess in order to live life to the fullest. Raines explores everything from developing good posture, behaving like a lady in public, hosting the bomb parties, buying the best for less, taking care of your hair in another country, and developing friends. Included in these pages are websites, recommended books, movies every black woman should own, and what should be in every doll's CD collection. She makes references throughout the novel to beautylicious greats, past and present, like Diahann Carroll, Josephine Baker, Pam Grier, Lena Horne, Halle Berry, Eartha Kitt, and more. Raines constantly takes lessons from their lifestyles and presents us "normal dolls" with knowledgeable routines to live by. She encourages readers to get a pet, eat healthy and exercise, save money, and stay in touch with their spiritual side. Raines doesn't just instruct on physical maintenance, but she also teaches readers how to maintain the mental, spiritual, social, and emotional aspects towards developing true inner beauty. BEAUTYLICIOUS! is indeed the beauty Bible for African American women young and old.

I thoroughly enjoyed every single moment I spent with BEAUTYLICIOUS! by Jenyne Raines. Her writing style is carefree, fun, and quite comical at times. I felt as though she was my best friend sitting next to me in a coffee shop passionately telling me everything I need to know to make the most out of the life God blessed me with. The information presented within these pages is simply invaluable and, after careful highlighting, I will refer back to it often. Of all the information she presents, the most helpful for me was learning about the components of Team Me. Every woman needs to have a Team Me to survive and if you really want to know what that entails, pick up this book today. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Sorry Copycat of BAP handbook
Review: This book was an awful copycat take on the BAP handbook. Eager to pick up where the BAP handbook left off, it fails miserably. This book brings on a fake air of sophistication by use of too many unusual adjectives and french phrases that no one understands. This book makes unreachable middle aged black female entertainers the center of admiration while ignoring the average career woman.Music, furs, and designer clothing are all it takes to be fabulous according to Beautylicious. The coverage of other topics are similiar to reading Essence. A sorry waste of time.

Summary: Diva Deluxe !

Summary: Black Women can live fabulously too!
Review: This is a great book. I disagree with those who says it's a bad rip-off of The BAP Handbook. I feel it's better than the BAP Handbook because it's not filled with so much snobbery & exclusiveness. Don't get me wrong, I love The BAP Handbook as well, but Jenyne is showing us you don't have to be a member of The Links or The Girl Friends to live the high life. I hope there is a part deux!!

Check out my Listmania inspired by this book!

Summary: Better Than I Thought
Review: This was a fun, quick read. Although the author does not delve too deeply in each subject, she does give some very important reminders that we owe it to ourselves to live a beautylicious life. Taking the time to pamper ourselves and re-adjust our negative thinking, gives our lives a great boost and makes us better to be around.
I found the earmarks of a lady very interesting, such as she waits her turn, never pushes ahead, is not loud and boisterous, speaks clearly and correctly. And yes, this is common sense, but how many of us get impatient, mumble and don't look people in the eye when we speak? Raines talks about stars having an entourage of people to help them look good, but she makes a point that we do too; our hairdresser, manicurist, dentist, the lady we always talk to at the makeup counter, etc, this is our beauty team and we should recognize that and make full use of them. She gives great tips on taking adventures while we're out alone, how to flirt, how to mix a great drink, a little advice on everything.

Summary: Fabulous
Review: This was an absolutely fabulous read. Raines does a fabulous job of covering a number of subjects in a very short amount of time. It's an easy and interesting read that gives you tips on everything from waxing to making a killer cosmopolitan. In this day and age where we're always rushing to our next appointment and trying to climb that corporate ladder we forget that we must always conduct ourselves as ladies, take care of ourselves, and then take over the world.

Summary: It was ok
Review: While reading the book I felt like a lot of the information was good to know, such as a good moral booster but other than that it was just average. It did have a good movie and book list recommendation.
