Liberwocky: What Liberals Say and What They Really Mean

Review: Liberwocky by Victor Gold is funny indeed. But as one makes the journey through all the definitions that have become acceptable in media vocabulary, Liberwocky becomes profound and then frightening.
Alice In Wonderland has held up for a long time as a valid insight into the world of politics. Again, Mr. Gold has demonstrated how aptly it applies to the conversations of today.
It is frightening to realize as one reads, that words, ideas, reports, tales, myths, have become so much a part of what one hears that one has accepted them as they come. I breathe a sigh of relief that I read this before I started believing it all. Habits are hard to break. Now I must start challenging the liberals in my life.

Summary: A conservative dictionary
Review: The author of this tongue-in-cheek dictionary of favorite liberal terms doesn't have the ascerbic wit of Ann Coulter, but his writing is definitely a "kinder, gentler" version of hers. Nonetheless, his definitions may cause liberal eyebrows to rise, and liberal gorge to rise, especially when he skewers Senator Clinton and her "secret" diary. It's all in good clean fun, though, and should be taken that way by every reader. I know that's not possible, because liberals really don't have a well-developed sense of humor, but they should try, anyway!

Summary: From "Activist" to "Zigzag"
Review: This is a great and very funny little book, with more than a grain of truth to it. By and large it takes a dictionary form and defines words as they are commonly meant to be understood by liberals. The definitions are generally very witty and right on the mark. I opened at random for an example and came up with page 104. The first entry on the page is an excellent example of what to expect: "Obscene: Liberal pejorative applied to 'outrageous' corporate profits; not, however, applicable to pornographic magazines or motion pictures." That isn't my favorite from the many entries, but it is a random example of what you can expect here. Of course, there are entries for things like "hate-crime", "extremists" (which never applies to the left, of course), "multicultural", "chilling effect", and my favorite, "meaningful dialogue".

I was thinking of a four star rating for the book as funny as it is, largely because I like to reserve five star awards for truly exceptional books. I ended up with five stars, though, after I read the appendices, which are all written in good humor and are all actually quite informative and well done. I especially want to single out Appendix 4 "Six Liberal Myths" as important reading. These are all things that everyone should know, but many don?t.

This book is great for exposing the hypocrisy of liberal-speak. So the next time you hear talk of "ethnocentrism," "fascism," "ethnic pride" (all of which are incredibly overused today), or any of the other scores of catchphrases so popular on the left, know exactly what to say to expose what is being said for what is meant. This is a great, funny, and desperately needed book. My hat is off to Victor Gold, I just wish that I had thought of it first!

Review: Victor Gold is a man to whom words mean something. In this day of bloviation, we not only have "buzzwords," we have "buzzsentences" and even "buzzparagraphs." Mr. Gold cuts though the ya-da ya-da of the PC groupies to explain what they really mean when they talk of "meaningful" relationships, and how the "kids" really matter. A MUST book for anyone who's been talked down to by the media elite.
