Review: When I was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and spent a lot of time researching the disease and its treatment, "Healthcare Online" was exactly the kind of book I needed but didn't have. It's clear and easy-to-use, though quite sophsticated in its research assistance, and very, very helpful in providing ways to separate out the valid information from the misleading or phony stuff. In the areas I researched intensively, it lists all the sources I eventually found for myself, plus some very useful sites I never discovered. I often counsel newly-diagnosed individuals with my disease and now will pass on this book as a gold mine for their own inquiries.

The introduction helps Web newbies familiarize themselves with the basics of searching. The chapters that follow put the info to good use, helping you do everything from finding information about specific major health categories (cancer, diabetes, arthritis) to locating the best hospital, finding a doctor, and working with your insurance company. I recently had to look up a couple of medical terms for my mother-in-law before I got the book, a search that took about 45 minutes starting with Google. The same search took about 10 minutes using the sites and tips in the book. If you care at all about your health, either from a getting healthy or staying healthy perspective, this book is a must-have.
