Rating: Summary: A Must Read for Women Business Owners Review: Don't be fooled by the title of this book. This is not another "networking" book or a simple "how to start a small business" book. It is also not a feminist propaganda disguised within a business development manual. If you are serious about starting, expanding, or reinventing your business consider reading this book. If you are a woman, definitely read this book!
From page one, the angels (read the book to understand why I refer to them as angels) who wrote this book make some basic assumptions: the reader is interested in paving a way in the business world, the reader has the drive to make their dreams come true, and the reader has passion, vision, a pioneering spirit, and the tenacity to make it happen.
But be prepared for lots of hard work. This isn't a read me and set me on the bookshelf type of book. The toolkit provided in the appendix (58 pages) includes checklists, to dos, and touch questions that need to be addressed. The Digging Deeper sections in each chapter provide expanded definitions of important concepts and the Summaries at the end of each chapter provide an easy way to review the important points.
Thanks to all that made this book a reality! It has a permanent place on my desk as I move my business to the next step and is already highlighted and dog-eared.
Rating: Summary: Thinking about starting a business, this is the book for you Review: Don't let the title deceive you because it really should have been called "Entrepreneurship for Dummies." It explains everything you need to know about launching a company but didn't even know to ask. A must read before you start writing your business plan.
Rating: Summary: Finally...a buiness "Bible"...that speaks to women Review: Everything you ever wanted to know about starting a buisiness...and more. This book is like sitting down with the Julia Child, Martha Stewart, and Betty Crocker of the business world....and having them share all their best recipe secrets.Whether you're starting a buisness in your kitchen, or already running a multi-million dollar company...the book is filled with advice you can really use....and not just the kind of stuff you find in other buisness books. In addition to dealing with the fine points of financing and marketing, it is filled with practical insights into the emotional and personal skills it takes to see a business through to success. And, it's also full of lots of case studies that let you see behind the scenes of entrepeneurial successes and failures. It's like business school in a box...only much more fun. A must for anyone [male or female] in business. Every savy mother should buy one for her daughter!
Rating: Summary: Women! Your first corporate asset should be this book. Review: If you are a woman thinking of starting your own business or already well on the path, this book is one of the best business investments you will ever make. "The Old Girls' Network" provides a common-sense and how-to approach to setting up a business (so very rare in the entrepreneurial world). While it nicely lays out the steps you likely will take in making your business a success, its strength is the focus on what it really takes - heart and soul and how you can leverage your own passion. It is packed full of examples of successful entrepreneurial women who have made their vision come true. The book is encouraging and supportive but never hesitates to keep the reader's feet on the ground with practical expectations and the other side of the table's perspective. Now we know how to play the game, it's not such a mystery. I am starting my own business and about to start to pitch to angel investors. Over my journey so far, I have had many moments when I have felt completely out of my league, confused by the entrepreneurial lingo, and very much alone. This book has given me guidance on where I should go next, role models to follow, and most of all confidence that I will succeed because I know where to go for support. My odds of success just went way through the roof. Thank you Sharon, Kathy and Connie for inspiring us all.

My 6 new retail distributors will realize more sales as a result of this opportunity. I am now experiencing entrepreneurial mania. My passion has exploded into raw enthusiasm and my ideas for new products are endless. The Old Girls' Network has become my daily resource, a partner if you will, in my new venture. I need the business savvy detailed in the book which provides the balance for both sides of my brain. I need to stay on target with my vision and business statements. And, everyday that I have to put myself out to the world for either acceptance or rejection, I need to remind myself - Why Not Me! Whether you are considering your own venture, are already in your own business or are deep into a career in corporate America, you must have passion and you must have your own Vision and Business Plans.
