Rating: Summary: A superb reference which clearly defines financial terms. Review: "Wall Street Words" has proven to be the ultimate dictionary when dealing in the financial arena. I use it continuously as a class reference when teaching students in financial planning. And require students to reference the book when they have to define a word when writing a paper associated with the class. In fact I recommend students purchase a copy for their own libary. When friends are unclear about stock market activities I always refer them to "Wall Street Words" for clarification.
Rating: Summary: A handy reference Review: Although I purchased this book for the glossary, I found it also contains investment tips and short stories to further explain some of the more difficult-to-understand terms. I recommend this book to anyone who finds broadcasters and writers using slang and unfamiliar investment terms.
Rating: Summary: An invaluable desktop reference guide for finance Review: As a recent alumnus of an Ivy League business school, I naively/arrogantly expected to find Wall Street Words of minimal use and really only purchased it because of a desire to switch careers from consulting to investment banking and a subsequent need for a reference tool in research. To my pleasant surprise, I have found it almost indespensable. It is always within reach when I read the WSJ and I find myself consulting it regularly. I think that the 1-star review below is quite unrealistic. While I would agree that there may be a couple of terms missing, for my money it's still the best book out there of its type. NONE of these books are exhaustive. Remember, this is neither a text book nor a course, just a reference guide. All up, an excellent reference guide that will answer most, if not all, of your financial terms and definitions questions succintly.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK GIVES YOU AN EDGE WHEN STUDYING FOR THE SERIES 7 Review: I am currently studying for the Series 7 stockbroker exam. The study manual often introduces terms with little or no explanation. The glossary in the study manual only covers a small fraction of the terms used. Before buying this book, I would have to list the terms, stop studying, and find explanations. Sometimes, I would have to waste precious study time calling into my trainer to discuss these terms. Now, I have all of the definitions I need right at my finger tips. This book has been a great supplement to the Series 7 study material. I no longer waste time struggling with terms I do not understand. I do not have to waste valuable time on hold calling into my trainer to get a better understanding of terms.
Rating: Summary: A useful reference source Review: I have found Wall Street Words to be the most useful reference book on my desk. I need to refer to it all to frequently to sort out the unfamiliar words used in the newspaper and on TV business programs. It is inexpensive and helpful.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK GIVES YOU AN EDGE WHEN STUDYING FOR THE SERIES 7 Review: It has all the words, it has all the definitions...it's all here. I work for a Wall Street firm and this is one of the few investment reference guides I keep at my office. Buy it.
Rating: Summary: Very Helplful Review: This is probably the single best reference source for Wall Street terminology. It is complete and even includes investment tips. I would recommend Wall Stree Words to any investor who is sometimes baffled by the financial mumbo jumbo of the Wall Street experts.
