Rating: Summary: I'm Going to Buy This Book for My Boss and Co-Workers! Review: Hooray! Someone has finally hit the nail on the head regarding practice and preparation. I can't tell you how affirming it is to hear that. According to the author, you just can't over-prepare and I think she's right. More often, it's the other way around - little to no preparation. And Sherman makes it simple with her easy-to-use templates and logical formats. I've already used a number of her ideas and made some significant progress where I had been struggling before. I'm going to buy this book for my boss and all my co-workers!
Rating: Summary: Awesome communication insight and review. Review: I am a sales rep and I have a degree in communications. This book takes all aspects of communication (verbal, non verbal, emails, etc) and sets it in a reader friendly format. It is a must have "pocket pal". This book reminds us of familiar communication etiquette and introduces us to some that we either don't know or simply forget from time to time. In a world that is so fast and less formal, this book helps us communicate better, thus providing an edge in business. Great book. Thank you Ruth! Kim
Rating: Summary: Great Guide on How to Be a Persuasive Communicator! Review: I just picked up this book because I am always interested in being a better communicator. While it covers some really basic guidelines on effective communication, it is a terrific refresher for me. The best part is Ruth's Truths, which summarize the author's practical and extremely down to earth points in each chapter. The book does a wonderful job of covering everything someone needs to know about communicating with other people in any situation. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: An Easy Read that Packs a Punch Review: This book is great for anybody that wants a nice read with practical examples. The best part of the book is the simple tools that can be used to guide conversations and the manner with which you get your message across.
Rating: Summary: Get Them to See it Your Way, Right Away Review: This book is terrific. It is extremely accessible and easy to read. Each chapter relates back to everyday situations that we've all been in and disects them in a way that makes the subject matter understandable. From that it's easy to translate the practical advice into day to day situations. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to further there self awareness or their interpersonal skills. Rating: Summary: soft skills defined.... Review: This book really delivers where other books typically fall short - that is in describing the 'how to' communicate part of 'soft skills'. Most books on sales and negotiating mention 'soft skills' but don't describe what that really means or what it looks or sounds like. This book describes in detail the most important soft skill - communication. Excellent tools help frame your communications and help you think through what you're trying to accomplish before saying your first word. Highly recommended for people in any profession who find themselves trying to 'sell' someone on their ideas. I can forgive Ms. Sherman her criticism of the 'Maine Message'. She just needs to realize that we in Maine like it the way it is here - Maine Message and all!
Rating: Summary: Oversimplified and nothing new Review: What a waste of time this book. Nothing new, all very common sense. A book for sales people without manners and for the social inept.
