Rating: Summary: A job search workshop in book form Review: Career consultant and management coach Catherine Beck presents It's Your Career: Take Control!, a job search workshop in book form. Covering everything from self-assessment to resume writing, interview techniques, practical exercises, sample forms, case studies, advice for negotiating one's compensation package and much more, It's Your Career is up-to-date on the latest trends - such as the recent acceptibility of a two-page resume rather than a one-page resume if one has more than five years' experience, a change brought around by increased employment turnover in the constantly changing modern world. It's Your Career presents need-to-know tips, tricks, and guidelines in a manner that anyone seeking the job best suited for them can immediately absorb. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: From the perspective of a professional job interviewer..... Review: I had the privilege to review this book very early in its development as a result of my relationship with the author. As a former V.P. of Human Resources who has interviewed literally thousands of job applicants, I can tell you that having this book available to you will boost your odds of success in securing that next position.
The truth is that hiring managers and HR recruiters generally sort job applicants into three groups: The "yes", "maybe", and "no" piles. I am constantly amazed that up to 90% of applicants self-destruct because they didn't know the unwritten rules of the job market. Getting to the yes pile isn't that hard if you know the way.
As a hiring professional, what I appreciate most about this book is that this isn't a theoretical business book on careers. It's a nuts and bolts, step by step, practical approach to finding and getting a job. I wish I could have offered a book like this to all those applicants that I put in the "maybe" and "no" piles over the years so that they would have had a fighting chance to compete for the jobs they wanted.
This is by far the most comprehensive work I have ever seen in one book on the topic of finding and getting a job. It is a superb reference based on sound and proven methods.
If you are looking for one book that passes the test from those of us who are professionals in employing people, this is it.

Rating: Summary: Great for small town or big city job searches. Review: I have been really impressed with this book. It has a lot of great ideas and examples for anyone job hunting or changing careers. I especially liked the interviewing questions with suggested responses and the section on salary and negotiation. I have already recommended this book to several friends and will continue to recommend it to everyone I know who is looking for a job or thinking of getting a new job.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely a "Must Have" Career Guide Review: This is an extremely well written, practical guide for managing one's career. It is easy to follow and presents logically. The examples are outstanding in that they illustrate tasks as well as span numerous professions. It takes the reader through every consideration that should be part of the job search--a "must have" for job seekers who want to learn how to pursue, evaluate, and achieve their best career move.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Guide! Review: When my husband was considering a job change he found the information in this book to be invaluable in helping him update his resume. The resume guidelines were very helpful in making sure that his resume had a professional appearance and that all the pertinent information was included. The sample resumes and cover letters were a great help as well. This is a comprehensive, easy-to-read guide, and I highly recommend it.
