Summary: Summaries of the Best Business Book Ideas in One Volume!
Review: Are you too busy to read dozens of business books? Using this one volume can help you obtain most of the benefit from the top books of the last two decades.

This book will probably be most appealing to people in their 20s who are trying to make some sense out of how to get ahead, but don't have much education or experience on the subject.

Now a 100 ideas sounds like a lot. You should know that Tracy often breaks them into subsets, so the total is really somewhere between 300 and 400 ideas. You'll really feel loaded down before he's done sharing with you.

They are all about positive thinking, exchanging value for value, and being persistent. Ben Franklin would approve of the emphasis on improvement. For example, the first set of laws are about Life -- and they read pretty much like a modern version of Think and Grow Rich.

Two things bothered me about the book. One was the lack of attribution (except for a list of books at the end). For example, Tracy says that the purpose of a business is to create a customer -- perhaps Peter Drucker's single most famous quote, but you look in vain for quotation marks or a reference to Drucker. The book that Drucker said it in (Management) is not cited in the bibliography.

The second thing that bothers me is that in some places Tracy is a little behind the curve. In the Dell-like Internet world, products and service can be customized for each person and that will be the wave of the future. Tracy still talks about segmenting customers rather than individualizing products and customers for each different customer.

So you might ask, why should I read this book? Frankly, it's because you probably won't read all of those books in his bibliography. This way, you'll at least get Tracy's take on what all of this means. One of the nice things about his work is he gives you directions for how to begin applying each principle.

My final quibble is that there is an appendix with pages of services and products that Tracy sells. I don't think such advertisements belong in a business book that someone has paid for. Skip the appendix.

After you have finished reviewing the lists here, I suggest that you think about how you can turn these ideas into good habits. One useful approach would be to create your own outlines to apply the 100 items to classes of actions and decisions that you make all of the time. For example, if you are in sales, how should you use these ideas for getting prospects? After you have that outline, you can develop some measures to tell you whether you are following the outline or not. When it becomes automatic to do so, keep measuring and make another outline. In the case of sales, you might look next at identifying what the customer's needs are. And then keep going.

Become a living model of best practices!

Summary: Practical Advice for Business Success
Review: Brian Tracy's latest is more than a book--it's a bible of personal success secrets. Tracy is different from other successful business folk, as he rose from humble beginnings--he was at one time a homeless high school dropout. He has gone on to achieve great success in real estate, sales, and now motivational speaking. The Book includes lessons that Brian has used himself and that have helped him to become the success that he is now. The writing is as clear and straightforward, as in Brian's speeches and the lessons in this book are ones that anyone can use, no matter where they are in life now.

It is a conglomeration of mutliple business strategies and tips all rolled into one easy-to-read book. If you only bought one book on achieving business success, this would be the one to get. It's got everything in it you'll ever need.

Summary: YOU MAY HAVE READ IT ALL BEFORE-BUT READ THIS REGARDLESS!
Review: For the last four years I have read all of the self-help, business, financial, and psychology books I've come across. Brian Tracy's tape set; The Psychology of Success was the first audio experience I had with this genre of material. From that time on, I've read, or listened to almost all of Mr. Tracy's material. While I can't say that this is a better book than Maximum Achievement, it is every bit as good. Brian Tracy may not use material which he can totally call his own, he portrays it in a way which relates more to us in our time than his predecessors. I loved this book. You will too! Some day I hope to meet him and thank him personally for how much his motivational materials have changed my life.

Summary: Excellent
Review: From a person who has created success, this book provides fabulous insight into what is required for anyone who wants to be successful. The book is broken into easy to read chapters and headings for each of the laws, followed by easy to understand descriptions. Even if you implement just one of the laws, you will see a change in your business.

With helpful anecdotes, you will understand why these laws should not be broken. You will see how these laws provide a successful career pattern for any person. You don't need a formal education to be able to apply the laws from the book. The book should be read as soon as you buy it because if you hesitate to read it you will delay your success.

I asked several of my successful friends to read the book and tell me what they thought of the "laws". They all agreed that if there are laws to success then these are the most important ones. I recommended it to several other people working their way up the corporate ladder. As a result of reading the book they were able to climb more than one rung at a time. If your competitors are reading it, you may soon find yourself looking for a new job. This book should be required reading for all business students prior to graduation and for all people trying to get ahead in today's world. You will soon see why there is more to business than the school of "hard knocks".

Summary: Valuable Guidelines...Not Unbreakable Laws
Review: The title is misleading. In fact, all of the 100 "laws of business success" which Tracy identifies are broken every day. That's precisely his point: Success awaits those who understand them and follow them; failure awaits those who do not. "The purpose of this book is to share with you a system of proven principles, or 'laws,' that have been discovered and rediscovered, practiced and implemented, by the most successful business people everywhere, in every kind of organization, large and small, throughout the history of business enterprise. The practice of these laws will give you the winning edge." Tracy organizes his material as follows:

Chapter One: -- The [5] Laws of Life (eg Cause and Effect)

Chapter Two -- The [14] Laws of Success (eg Forced Efficiency)

Chapter Three -- The [14] Laws of Business (eg Critical Success Factors)

Chapter Four -- The [12] Laws of Leadership (eg Empathy)

Chapter Five -- The [13] Laws of Money (eg Accelerating Acceleration)

Chapter Six -- The [15] Laws of Selling (eg Positioning)

Chapter Seven -- The [14] Laws of Negotiating (eg Win-Win or No Deal)

Chapter Eight -- The [13] Laws of Time Management (eg Sequentiality)

Tracy discusses each of these 100 "Laws" and also includes several "corollaries." My guess is that many of the Laws (if not most of them) are already familiar to you. In that event, they have value as reminders. What I found most valuable is Tracy's grouping of them in subject-specific clusters (eg The Laws of Negotiating after The Laws of Selling); also, his use of sequences, from one Chapter to another, from one Law to another. Personally, I view the Laws as Guidelines which can help to inform and then direct appropriate decisions in all manner of situations. Also, as I think Tracy would agree, they will be effective if (and only if) in combination with a firm commitment. As one old adage suggests, "If you don't care where you're going, any road will get you there." It has a corollary: "If you don't care what happens, anything you do (or don't do) won't make any difference anyway."

Thank you Brian!
