Rating: Summary: Okay Review: As a graduating college senior this was such a helpful guide to helping me land a great internship with a company where I would be doing a lot of office work. It helped me understand and become a great intern and will hopefully lead to a job offer. This book really taught me to become a good office worker and to shine to my boss. This book was so helpful to learning about the assistant culture and for getting me ahead of other interns by always doing a bang up job.
Rating: Summary: This book is awesome! Review: As someone who has been an administrative assistant for 4 years, I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to be successful in that role - whether long term or short. The book provides tons of extremely helpful information, and it's easy and enjoyable to read. The author has a great writing style. This book will remain a reference for me for the duration of my career.
Rating: Summary: Listen to Heather Review: Heather Beckel was my boss during my very first internship. In a world where perfection was the standard, she taught me how to be the best assistant I could be. I started off well-meaning and earnest, but she helped me turn my enthusiasm into expertise. We were a tight group, those who worked for Heather, and we would all agree it was a career-shaping experience. Read her words. They will help you get to where you want to go.
Rating: Summary: This book is awesome! Review: Heather Beckel, former assistant to Clinton White House advisor George Stephanopoulos, wrote this manual for other assistants to help live by. Combining tried and true advice with blow by blow accounts of the White House experience and more, Beckel grounds the reader with why they should take her advice instead of just listening to it. Intended to be an orientation for assistants, this book could also be used by a manager to help them with relating better to their assistants. The author is eclectic yet understated in her own talents. It is no small coincidence that she went from high office in politics to Ralph Lauren in New York City. The skills she emphasizes within these pages allowed her to become her own boss. Good advice is where you find it.
Rating: Summary: Okay Review: I bought the e book which was nice because I got it the same day but no nice since I can not print it or copy it for notes. This book is very good for new assistants. I would have liked to have read more ideas than hear all the stories. It was an okay book I probably would not recommend it. I was pulled in by the strong title.
Rating: Summary: It keeps you honest Review: The book lived up to my expectations. I expected to learn a new trick or two and reinforce the level of service I should be providing. I would recommend this book as a good check point for seasoned professionals.
Rating: Summary: Elementary Review: The writer has great writing style and all, but it's really for the newcomers in the world of professional administration.I was impressed by the title of the book. My style of reading? I read the cover, backcover, contents and introduction. Then, I briefly scanned the book. I like the presentation. What's really lacking is the content when I really dig into it. I had the expectation that it's for the 'take-your-career-to-the-next-level' readers (seasoned office professionals), but it's not. The information provided, particularly the "Appendix" is very USA but the concepts and principles are very relevant. Having worked and still do, in large American corporations, I find it easy relating to the book. Having said all that, it still makes a GREAT book for everyone who is NEW and ASPIRES to be the BEST admin you could ever be - A KICKASS ASSISTANT. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: A fun read, even for non-assitants Review: This book is written to help you become a better assistant, and it succeeds very well at that. Heather Beckel's suggestions on how to be a better assistant are also useful for anyone who works in an office - her guidelines on computer use, keeping on schedule, and communication were helpful to me. But, more importantly, the book is an entertaining read for anyone! Beckel has worked in some very interesting places, with some famous and powerful people. She has some great stories to tell that complement her suggestions for the workplace. The book is written in a conversational style that makes it easy to read in "small bites." I enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for Admins Review: This is a fabulous book! Not everything applied to me (If I stayed later than my boss he'd wonder why I was charging overtime) but overall it was a great book. This is not a book about how to be a great assistant to your boss so that s/he will never let you go and that you'll be supporting them forever. This book is about how to be a great assistant and using that to springboard you into something else. That something else could be being your own boss or being a higher level executive assistant. This book is empowering and interesting. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants truly wants to better themselves and their careers.
Rating: Summary: This book is KICKASS!!! Review: This is not your typical secretarial manual. There is nothing dry, staid, or boring here. This book is for folks who want to go places, and don't want to get stuck in the "Admin" trap. I loved it, and will continue to reference it for my current job. I will even refer to it when I have my own assistant in the future.
