Rating: Summary: Not for everyone. Review: If you're still in college or just fresh out of college, this would be an excellent source to help prep for the FE exam. On the other hand, if you've been out of college for a while and haven't used some of the skills you learned for a number of years, it would be better to take a prep class. Case in point, the calculus section condenses three semesters of calculus knowledge into roughly 5 pages. Fine if every aspect of calculus is fresh in your mind, otherwise you'll find yourself going back to your old textbooks for further review, essentially prepping for the prep book and requiring far more time to prep than the book suggests.
Rating: Summary: An excellent review for the general FE exam Review: This book is a great resource for preparing for the general portion of the FE exam. It reviews all of the different topics in depth, and provides many practice problems with complete, detailed solutions. Use this manual to brush up on subjects you haven't studied in a while, and to gain speed and accuracy in solving FE-style problems. The sample exam is representative of the morning section of the FE in terms of problem type, scope and difficulty.
If you are taking the Mechanical discipline-specific exam in the afternoon, I do not recommend the companion review manual by Saad, Tabrizi, and Lindeburg. Rather, buy "FE/EIT Mechanical: Discipline-Specific Review for the FE/EIT Exam" by Merle C. Potter (see my review there). I cannot speak from experience for any other discipline-specific exams.
Also, it is essential that you buy "Fundamentals of Engineering Supplied-Reference Handbook" by NCEES. Use this as your only reference when trying to work problems, as it will be all you have during the actual exam.
Rating: Summary: If you want to pass the PE - GET THIS BOOK! Review: This book was extremely helpful in preparing for the FE. It takes some time to go through all the material, but if you do it is well worth it. I passed the FE on the first try because of this book!
Rating: Summary: Helped me pass my EIT Review: This book was very helpful in ever aspect. Topics and examples are covered in detail. I would recommend the purchase of this book if you are thinking of taking the F.E Exam.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book to prepare you for EIT/FE Exam Review: This is the only book I used to study, and I passed the exam the first try.Pros - Every topic is clearly outlined - easy to set up your own battle plan - Diagnostic exam, short references, and practice exams on each topic - One full-length sample exam Cons - This is the 3rd Edition but errors still exist. Go to www.ppi2pass.com to look for the errata list - The references on this book are more detailed than the actual references provide for the exam. Don't rely on them to do practice problems. Tips - Download a copy of FE Supplied-Reference Handbook from ncees.org (This is the only reference that will be given to you during the exam.) So, get familiarized with the content and use it to do all your problems. - Purchase the FE/EIT Sample Examinations if you feel you need more practice. - I found the actual test easier than the practice questions in the book. So do not panic if you don't know how to do some of the questions in this book. - The raw score for passing the exam is about 120/240. In a perfect world, random guessing all questions will give you 60/240 (or 25%). So if you spend a little bit of time going through this book, you should be fine. Good luck!
