Summary: A disappointment
Review: According to the writer, the best way to have an affordable wedding is to gouge friends and family and get them to "donate" cakes, flowers, decorations etc... I see thousands of readers morphing into Bridezillas as we speak. Yes, if your family can afford this, or you have well-connected friends - duh. The average poor bride's family is usually as poor as she is, so this book won't be of any help. Visit The Knot or Bride's magazine and get better advice for free

Summary: Inspiring advice on affordable wedding planning
Review: As a recently engaged couple, we thoroughly enjoyed reading "Priceless Weddings For Under $5,000."

Kathleen offered advice that was inspiring, creative AND actually doable! We especially enjoyed the real-life examples she provided of how she was able to guide couples in attaining the kinds of ceremonies that were important to them, making them even more meaningful and memorable.

This book is a must-have for couples planning their big day.

Thank you!

Summary: Save your money!
Review: Even if you have a cousin Billy who is going to photography school, don't let anyone besides a photographer with a lot of wedding experience take your pictures.
I am a non-wedding photographer, and no matter what anyone tells you weddings are hard. I have taken wedding photos for friends and other people who just "needed someone" or "wanted to save some money." Even though I'm a pretty good photographer, weddings are a like no other photography job on earth...the families, the rushing, the stress. I know that my photos weren't just as good as the expensive pros.
Trust me, you want someone who has experience with that kind of pressure. You spent the money on the wedding, don't skimp on preserving those memories. It's not worth it.

There's a reason why really good wedding photographers cost so much!

Summary: Not helpful at all
Review: I have a large family (9 sisters, 1 brother, plus their kids, etc.), so this book wasn't very helpful.

Also, the tips for getting family members to help out with the cake and misc wedding stuff, DUH! The crafty members of my family are going to help me out to cut the cost.

This guide is not practical at all. Save your money and be creative with ways to cut costs for your wedding.

Summary: Truly Priceless
Review: I thought this book was great. Dealing with a low budget and wanting the perfect wedding, I found this book very helpful in managing lesser expenses, and still pulling off the wedding of my dreams. The author helped me to focus on the really important things I wanted rather than the superficial things. A great book for low cost and well done weddings. Recomended to all who are planning weddings.

Summary: one of the most valuable I read
Review: In addition to being one of the most helpful books we bought as we are planning our wedding (and we bought quite a few), this one is also fun to read. She offers examples of weddings, breaks down how they spent money and -- most of all -- gave me ideas (and permission) to do it our way. She points out that weddings that aren't 500 people and extravagant affairs reflect the couple better and are often far more enjoyable. Also look for Bridal Bargains -- the other most helpful book we found.

Summary: Our wedding was priceless!
Review: My wife and I just tied the knot and the advice in this book was invaluable! We really enjoyed reading such unique wedding insights, helpful hints and examples of what other couples planned for their own weddings. Our wedding cost more than $5000, but was "priceless" because we kept the focus on the commitment AND spent quality time with friends and family.

Summary: Ironically, not much bang for the buck
Review: This book would be great if it were the only one out there. However, it is most certainly not. The only original parts of the book (and by that I mean ideas that you couldn't find elsewhere) were the dollar breakdowns of some actual weddings for less than $5,000. Those examples were very specific scenarios, and if you weren't one of those similar situations(ie: having a friend or family with a home large enough for your guestlist), there wasn't much value gained from the book.

Given the target audience for the book are couples trying to get the most for their dollar, the book itself fails to carry it's own weight. Page for page, better value can be found elsewhere, such as Bridal Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields. There wasn't a single idea in Priceless Weddings that I didn't find in Bridal Bargains.

Summary: Real life ideas for real life weddings
Review: This is a wonderful book with real-life solutions for brides-to-be. As a party planner for over 15 years, I have had the occasion to help hundreds of brides plan their weddings and there is an abundance of usable ideas in this book. The average wedding in the U.S. is tens of thousands of dollars and that simply does not make sense. The bridal industry takes advantage of brides who want their day to be a once in a lifetime event - Kathleen Kennedy helps them do just that, but with budget conscious ideas. This is not a book about cutting corners. It is about making priorities and planning a wedding that truly reflects who the bridal couple is; that, as Kennedy explains, does not have to break the bank. I will recommend this book to every bride I know.

Summary: Want your wedding to be unique and personal?
Review: This is not the book for you if you want to invite 500 people and to have a wedding that looks like every other wedding you've ever attended. This is a GREAT book, however, for those independent-minded couples who want a wedding that is more interesting and personal than the ones the bride magazines try to sell you. There are great ideas for creating a wedding that reflects who you are as people. No cookie-cutter weddings here. Just beautiful, original ideas to help you create an event that truly reflects your life and your love.
