Rating: Summary: A life saver Review: Informative, simple to use, a real time saver. When my wife and I started planning our wedding, we didn't have a clue. We also didn't have the money for a professional planner. Thank god for Ms. Blum and this book. The advice made the whole ordeal a snap. We couldn't have done it without her. Now my wife is contemplating a career as a wedding planner herself. Thank you Marcy.
Rating: Summary: Not for those with limited budgets and time Review: Marcy Blum has written a book for those with enough time and money to obsess about details. It's Martha Stewart without the gorgeous photographs. This frugal and down-to-earth bride didn't find it helpful.
Rating: Summary: A plethora of information for the bride-to-be! Review: Marcy Blum knows weddings backwards and forwards. She has planned numerous society weddings and shares all her secrets in this book. This book covers everything from politically correct invitation wording to negotiating with your caterer. The tone is incredibly witty and humerous. This is an irreplaceable tool for all brides-to-be who plan to take on the monstrous task of planning their own wedding. The nuts and bolts information will show you how many square feet of dancefloor you'll need as well as how many martinis your guests will consume. This book is a treasure buy it for yourself or anyone that is planning a wedding!
Rating: Summary: This is the first book that does it all Review: Most books I looked at focused completely on the wedding itself. Well, what about for those of us who plan on running off and want to focus on the party! Yes, this book does the full detail all you need to know on the wedding, but it has a GOOD deal of meat on the reception as well. I feel so much more confident renting a banquet hall, picking the meal, making the list etc etc... And - with most 'for dummies' books - this is an easy item to reference back to throughout your planning. You don't have to bookmark the 'important sections' as the whole thing is full of important info that is EASILY navigatable to get back to at a later date.
Rating: Summary: This book is destined to be a best seller!! Review: My daughter is getting married and a friend told me about this book. It is nothing short of spectacular. Marcy Blum is a genious and my daughter and I thank her for sharing all of her secrets. Because of Marcy the wedding is sure to be a hit.
Rating: Summary: Most useful book we've seen for wedding planning! Review: My fiance and I bought this book as soon as we became engaged, along with several others. We read the book cover to cover and are still consulting with it whenever we have to make a wedding-related decision. This is our only wedding planning book that is not gathering dust; we haven't put it on the bookshelf yet! If you only want to buy one wedding planning book, this is definitely IT.
Rating: Summary: please give us a book for 'real' brides! Review: My fiancee and I paid for our own wedding. I worked full time while I was planning it. My mother lives in another state and couldn't be of much help. Nor could I afford a professional wedding planner (as if!). This book has some nice ideas, but seems the latest in a long line of increasingly-passe wedding planners that assume that you have all the time and money in the world to organize and pay for your wedding. When will publishers wake up and realize we don't?
Rating: Summary: This Wedding Planning Book Stands Out from the Crowd. Review: No pretty cover and no pretty pictures which may be considered marketing suicide for a wedding planning book. But yet this one wedding planning book is jam packed with information! This information is written to a diverse readership with various wedding budgets. Budgets dictate one's priorities and one's priorities determine which information is useful and which is useless. Here is a wealth of information for brides to decide for themselves how they want their Wedding Day to be! I have been professionally photographing weddings for 19 years and have been called upon for planning advice and even directing weddings. I'm now providing Weddings for Dummies to all my clients. My clients are happier and I'm spending more time dealing with their photography needs.
Rating: Summary: New Mother-of-the-bride learns to relieve anxieties Review: Okay- now that my daughter is planning a wedding and asking me questions - I wouldn't have a clue what to tell her if I didn't have "Weddings..." to refer to. There hasn't been one question I haven't been able to answer while using this book. It's incredibly sensible and sensitive and amazingly thorough. Bravo for all the options available when making a wedding.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best Review: Simple, direct, easy to use. When my wife and I were putting our wedding together, we didn't have a clue, and we certainly didn't have the money to hire a planner. Marcy's book saved our lives, our sanity and probably 6 months of our time. My wife is even considering becoming a professional wedding consultant; so watch out Ms. Blum!
