Summary: VERY Helpful
Review: While pregnant with my first child, I was very unsure of where to start acquiring things that my baby would need. This book was great a great way to begin the list. It was informative and unbiased (I believe). I was able to use it to decide which items I wanted to spluge on and which I could save on, all while keeping in mind safety, quality and usefulness. I took it with me when I registered and it made it so simple! It is a great place to start and, in combination with your own judgement, will make you well prepared to welcome your little one!

Summary: Worth the money!!
Review: I have the original and even IT saved me time and money (7-8 years old) TODAY!! Was about to purchase a newer copy so thanks to the first reviewer for letting us know a new one comes out in 3 days! This is an especially good book for "newbies". It does an excellent job rating the major (and not so public) manufacturers. I learned more about product safety issues from this book alone than from all my other combined. Of all the "professional" books available, I still rate this and the "girlfriend's guides" as the most useful! Not to mention the fact that it is in a nice slim book that fits easy in the purse (or dads briefcase!).

Summary: Great Book for first time moms
Review: I bought this book after reading good reviews on a message board. It was terrific. It answered most if not all my questions and prepared me for the overwhelming trip to the baby superstore.

The book's size was perfect for my briefcase and was easy to take to work and read on the train. After reading through it once I went back and hilighted information I needed. It was a fast read and was organized quite well for quick reference in the store.

I also have the Consumer Reports book but didn't use it except to verify the information I found in this book.

If you are a first time mom and like me don't know a lot of about baby stuff get this book. You will soon become an expert.

Summary: Invaluable book for first time parents
Review: I am a first time parent and found this book to be invaluable. A friend suggested it and I only wish they had told me about it earlier in my pregnancy. There are so many things out there to buy and so many different manufacturers it is completely overwhelming. This book helped me determine what things were important to me and then narrow down the items that I wanted to look at in person. I buy it for everyone that I know that is expecting.

Summary: New 5th Edition about to be released (April 7th)
Review: I was about to buy this book (as it comes highly recommended), but discovered from their website (windsorpeak.com/babybargains/default.html) that the new edition will be out in 2 and a half weeks. The book is only updated every 2 years and the new edition adds 70 new pages. If you can wait, I'd recommend it.

Summary: First time parents....this book is a MUST-have!
Review: This book is wonderful....I found it at Borders bookstore and have read it cover to cover in no time. If you are first time parents-to-be, you definitely should get this book prior to making any major baby purchases. The authors review everything from diapers to maternity clothes to baby furniture and even bottles, breast pumps, etc., basically everything you will possibly need!! It is very easy to page through different sections. This book will save you inordinate amounts of time in researching before you buy! If you have internet access, this book gives you many internet website addresses to super helpful websites, including discounts/coupons. I had done a lot of surfing on the web prior to buying this book and had not even begun to find such helpful info as there is here. I am not one who writes a lot of reviews on things, but, this one deserves it.

Summary: Essential for all new parents-to-be
Review: I got this as a gift, and it has been invaluable to me as both a learning experience (what do I really need?) and as a reference as I go through each category of "stuff" in preparation for my first baby due this summer. It's also the only baby book that my husband would go near.

Each section follows a common format, so it's easy to find the type of information you need. Each section contains a list of the minimum you need in each category (e.g. layette) and various ways to save money.

This book is not about the cheapest baby gear on the market - it's about getting the best value for your money. They give several expensive stroller manufacturers their highest grade, even though similar strollers can be had at Target and the like, because of their products' quality and durability. This kind of advice is very hard to come by - Consumer Reports is often years (and several models) behind the current selection of baby gear.

Get this book before buying anything else baby-related, you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Savvy shoppers can pass this one up
Review: My husband and I are about to adopt our first child. I admit my first few visits to the baby departments and baby super stores were overwhelming. The selection of gizmos and gadgets available now is mind-boggling, so I ordered this book hoping they could stear me away from the junk and to the essentials.

My first big gripe with this book has nothing to do with content. It's narrow pages and tight binding make it nearly impossible to keep open with one hand, so forget about taking notes or sipping tea while reading. If the publisher's are reading this: PLEASE, make the pages at least 5" X 7" and spiral bind this sucker! Some space for notes might be nice.

As to content, this book doesn't tell you anything a little internet research and discussion with people who have had babies recently can't tell you. Research internet sites such as Consumer Reports for safety issues regarding cribs, toys and car seats and ask some "been there done that" parents about what items they couldn't live without and what they thought were a waste. Ask family, friends, neighbors, people standing in line at the store with toddlers in their carts. People LOVE to give you their advice - for FREE!

Also this book does a lot of complaining about manufacturers and the way items are marketed, which I think takes up way too much space in this thick, empty book.

And the bottom line is people who know how to bargain hunt in other areas, are going to know how to bargain hunt for their baby items. But, if you need to be told that you don't need to buy a $1,000 crib to keep your baby safe, then go for it. Otherwise the first step to saving money in your nursery budget is to not buy this book.

Summary: The best book on saving money on baby gear!
Review: My copy of "Baby Bargains" was so worn by the time I finally had my first baby, I thought it would fall apart. It's a fantastic resource for first-time parents who want to save money on everything for baby. I like the fact that they provide specific web sites, phone numbers and (some) addresses. And they really do seem to listen to the feedback they've gotten from parents.

If you enjoy it and trust my review, check out my book, "THE MOM-TO-MOM GUIDE TO THE BABY YEARS: REVIEWS, RATINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE TRENCHES." It gives real-world advice on everything from losing the pregnancy weight to neat ways to preserve your memories from the baby years.

Summary: Nice book if you need a kick start into finding bargains
Review: I received this book as a gift when I was pregnant and enjoyed reading the reviews and suggestions for saving money. However, I am a "pro" when it comes to saving money to begin with, so many of the suggestions were 'old news' to me. If you are not a natural at finding bargains, this is a great book for you. If you are good at saving money, you probably know most of the tricks they suggest. Also, keep in mind that many of the product reviews they give are the authors opinions--I felt differently about several products. For example, the authors hail over the Diaper Genie, and I really didn't care to use the Genie after a short period of time. Just something to keep in mind and know to take everything with a grain of salt.
