Summary: A great help for twins on a budget!
Review: There's no sugar-coating it here. They tell you the facts. And now that it's over a year later I can firmly say that they were right! With twin boys born three months premature, we had a lot to worry about and we didn't want finances to plague our already stressful experience. What a godsend this book is! We took their advice and relieved our tension. Only "complaint": it should come in an updated version every year! THANK YOU!

Summary: Great for saving money and getting tons of info on products
Review: I am recently pregnant with my first child and felt overwhelmed by the amount of choices that my husband and I have to face. I refuse to buy my little one everything second hand but I dont want to spend $10,000 on furniture and accessories either. Heck, I dont want to spend $5,000! But it almost seems that would inevitably happen with the prices of cribs at the baby superstores and the designer bedding sets at $400.00 a whop!

First off I love the comparison of brands for each section, it saves time and sanity to have all this in one place! I cant ever imagine knowing anyone who would be able to answer all the questions I have and be an expert on quality. I feel that we will be able to make the best decisions as far as safety and budget are concerned. Plus reading about SIDS safety hazzards and what products arent necessary is so helpful.

I think even parents who have been around the block would find this useful, items are recalled each year so why not be up to date. Plus the book has a money back guarantee how can you go wrong?

Summary: The best baby book for new parents!
Review: This was absolutely THE most useful thing I received while I was expecting. All of the information is totaly unbiased, easy to understand, and completely truthful based on real peoples' experiences. Before I read this book I was overwhelmed by all of the baby products to choose from. Safety and quality were important to me, but I had no idea how to tell which products were the best for me and my needs. This book saved me from making a lot of mistakes (and returns!). I highly recommend it to all expecting parents, first-timers and veterans alike!

Summary: INDISPENSIBLE!!!!
Review: ANY NEW PARENT IS FOOLISH NOT TO READ THIS COVER TO COVER!!!!When I was pregnant with my first child, a friend recommended this book and I was skeptical. I didn't want the cheapest baby products or ways to skim $10 off a budget, I wanted the best, the safest and most durable products and I was willing to pay for them. A guide to these types of products is excactly what I got. It was FANTASTIC, practical information regarding every product I could ever need or want (And the ones I could rule out!). The ONLY bad advice it gave was with respect to a monitor, and when I was pregnant with my second child I bought the updated version for the carseat and double stroller information and they admitted their monitor mistake and I bought the new one they recommended and was very happy. It is an INCREDIBLE resource. I also bought the Toddler Bargains book, although now that you can buy the Booster Seat info separately, I only needed that. I am now pregnant with twins and forced to buy doubles of the things I need, and I am again buying the newly updated version. It saves a great deal of time and deliberation facing all the products in Babies-R-Us and the limited knowledge of their sales paople!

Summary: This book helped us get ready in 5 weeks
Review: We found out about 5 weeks before our child was born that we had been chosen to adopt her. We had a lot of research to do in a very short amount of time. Thanks to this book, the research was fun, easy and efficient. We were able to avoid stuff we didn't need but might not have known, as first-time parents. We saved time by not having to research every option. And we had a lot more fun with the process.

Summary: The Best!!
Review: As soon as I started looking through this book, I realized how valuable it would be to me and my husband. We take it with us whenever we go shopping for the baby because it is so helpful and objective. The "Wastes of Money" sections are great for our budget and while you can get details on the products throughout the chapters, you can also get succinct ratings on products at the end of each section. We registered with this book in hand and so far we feel like it has really been the most useful tool. The clerks at Babies 'R Us were impressed with our knowledge and could have conversations with us about the products without "upselling" to us. I think they knew we wouldn't go for anything the book didn't recommend! I'm am giving this to my friends when they get pregnant- it makes a great gift!

Summary: BEST resource for everything you need ( and don't need)
Review: THe author uses comsumer reports and parent feedback to rate every item you'll find in Babies -R-us ( or anyhere else). This book was an amazing resource for me and my sister as first time parents.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A very good book, provided you need all this stuff
Review: This book is an excellent resource and a must for first time parents. It explains what you need (i.e. crib, stroller, high chair, etc.) and which products are durable, safe and high quality. It also provide concrete advice on each product--buy this one of you're on a budget, this one of you want to scale up a little, and this one if you really want the best. There's also advice on what are a complete waste of money (like round cribs, elaborate layettes and whatnots). I didn't save much money-wise (I always bought "best" category), but I got an excellent value for my money thanks to the information provided in the book.

My problem is that it didn't mention that there's a chance you won't need any of this stuff. I was blessed with a high needs baby who absolutely refuses to sleep in a crib (there goes my Pali, Cotton Tale shooting stars nursery theme and all that), cannot stay put in a stroller (so should have bought a Didymos instead of a Peg Perego), and screams the moment she touches her bouncer seat (Fisher Price) or swing (Graco 6 speed, 32 tunes, yadda yadda). The only thing I ended up using was the rumble tuff furniture thing, and, of course, the car seats.

So I wasted about 2K on nursery/gear that I did not need. I did need a lot of baby carriers since my baby needs to be carried 24/7, but interestingly the advice Baby Bargains gives on baby carrier is the worst possible--the BB carrier (their top pick) is actually harmful for the baby--it puts undue stress on the spine and pelvic bones by forcing the baby into an unnatural position.

In summary, an excellent reference (except on the baby carrying part) but in some cases it may be all useless and a waste of money.

Summary: Best Baby Product Book Ever
Review: My husband and I count on Consumer Reports for everything from dishwashers to lawn mowers, but they let us down when it came to baby products. I don't know if they're just too scared to rate them (lawsuits??) or if they just don't bother to. We bought the Consumer Reports book and found it lacking in many areas. They don't rate the products like they do in their guides (if you're used to the red and black cirlces you won't find them in their book). This book went in depth and told us exactly what to expect to pay, what to look for and where to find it. I think the name is a little deceptive, as I didn't expect to find ratings in it, but I'll buy each new edition that comes out as long as I'm still in the market for baby items.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best money you'll ever spend!
Review: Make sure you get the most current edition. You will feel so much better when you are out buying baby products with this book in hand as your ammo against salespeople. It has saved me thousands of dollars (We are having having twins). You don't always have to pay top dollar to get the best products. I feel confident knowing that I am doing the best for our babies. Good luck.
