Summary: Excellent first-time parent resource!
Review: I found this book to be an excellent resource while planning and preparing for my first child's arrival! I marked it up, and carried it with me every time I shopped. While shopping, other expectant mothers often asked me what I was referencing, and I shared the advice in the book with them right in the stores. I used the book to help me decide on our highchair, crib, crib mattress, monitor, even the baby food! They recommend where to spend for quality (i.e., the crib and car seat) and where you can save. Also, the ratings are a type of "consumer reports" for baby items, with feedback gathered from actual parents as well as the authors. My sister is expecting her first baby, and the first thing I gave her was my copy of Baby Bargains! Highly recommended for all new parents-to-be!

Summary: Very Helpful for a First-time Mom
Review: I found this book to be complete and very helpful in buying items for my first baby. I don't have many friends or close family memebers with babies so I was looking for a book which would offer advice on the multitude of baby products on the market! It can be discouraging relying on salesmen (who are clearly trying to sell you a product) or on guesswork to figure out the best stroller, high chair, etc. for you. This book not only compares products and gives you "good, better & best" choices, it gives you information to make a decision about a product which may not make their top list but fits your needs adequately.I am very budget conscious and found the authors' advice to be sympathetic to my budget as well as practical about where to pinch pennies and where to put the big bucks. It also helped me create a (hopefully) comprehensive list of items I need before the baby arrives and items that can be added later. This helps to spread purchases out over time and allow room in the budget for things --- only when they're necessary. I have used BABY BARGAINS to register for my showers and cannot imagine a store clerk spending the necessary time with me to go over each and every item in such detail. Also, the authors have researched companies and products so they are familiar with recalls and potentially dangerous products. Imagine getting that information from a sales person! BABY BARGAINS is a useful, informative and comprehensive book that is definately worth the money. It will continue to be useful as my baby grows, too.

Summary: Good book, but not budget sensitive
Review: This book offers comprehensive information on baby products and I recommend it. However, it's really not geared toward the budget spender and seems to assume that price is always an indicator of quality which is not always the case. If you're on a budget, I wouldn't get this book as it will make you feel bad for not getting the top quality, top dollar item on every baby purchase you make. I did get a lot of useful info from this book and I continue to refer to it. I just think it could give more options for people who aren't rich.

Summary: A must-have book for any first time parent!
Review: There are SO many baby products on the market that it can be truly overwhelming. This book takes the guess work out of trying to figure out which crib or stroller or car seat to buy for your baby. They have done all of the research on quality, recalls, service, and price for you! Being pregnant, I don't have the energy or time to shop around and collect information on products. Plus, they tell you what baby items you REALLY won't need, which will save you lots of money. A couple thoughts to new purchasers of the book: Read it with an open mind. The information in the book is constantly changing. Companies alter the format of the their web sites and are constantly improving and changing the design of their products. I've used the book as a general reference for everything, but I go to their web site to confirm any changes or recalls that might have occurred since the book was published. They constantly are updating their site. The authors rate items primarily based on quality, which is incredibly important for any baby item. Generally, the higher quality items are going to cost more money. However, the authors do provide cost conscious options for those people that are not willing to purchase the most expensive products on the market. Many other reviews I've seen posted seem to ignore this option. All in all, Baby Bargains is a must have for any soon-to-be parents' library. Whenever we go to Babies R Us, I see many couples walking around with this book as they make their purchasing decisions. It's truly a must-have!

Summary: Great Help for First Time Parents
Review: I love this book. It is helping us get ready for our first child. I don't agree with the "posh" thing that another reviewer said. As a parent, I want things that are safe for my child and if that means spending money for better built baby equipment so be it. I look at it this way, if you want stuff that's inexpensive, you're going to get cheaply made stuff that's going to fall apart. If you want good quality, you're going to have to pay for it. They're trying to prevent you from buying things that could harm your child.

Summary: Baby Bargains
Review: We used this book as a starting point for all of our research.As the parents of a thriving 7 month old baby boy, we are pleased withmost of the information in the book. We did have a couple of problems though. On the authors' advice, we purchased Rumble Tuff furniture to go with our Morigeau-Lepine crib. Ten months after we originally ordered the furniture, we are sending it back... Other than that, we've been pleased. We did find that some of the links to sites didn't work, but that happens. The time and research the authors did saved us valuable time and money. END

Summary: Must have for New Parents
Review: If you get only one book on what you need as a new parent this is it. It gives information not only on what you need, but more importantly what you don't.

Review: I found many of the reviews not to be relevant. Some products they don't like just because their predictions were wrong. Some reviews consist of we've never liked this product, we never will. It doesn't give you real complaints that you can use to compare. I found the book very geared for the wealthier consumer. The only things given A ratings are extremely expensive. If you used all of thier reccommendations, your baby will cost you triple. This book is for the "posh" baby, not for the real world.

Summary: So much valuable information
Review: This is a great book, especially for first time parents. It completely sorts out what's necessary and what's not when it comes to the completely overwhelming world of baby products. The Consumer Report book does not contain 1/10th of the valuable information that this book does. Everytime I learn that a new friend of mine is pregnant, I buy this book for them. It's like a bible!

Review: This book is great and would recommend for all first time parents. It really helps sort through all the numerous baby products by telling you what you need and what is a waste. This book has really helped me prepare for the arrival of our first child. This is a must have!
