Summary: Great Book
Review: At 15 years of age, I gave up babysitting and never gave children a thought....At the tender age of 29 and woefully clueless, DH and I picked up this book prior to the birth of our son and subsequently saved ourselves a great deal of money, time, and decision making angst.

This book contains ratings charts for carseats, cribs, and all kinds of baby products. It lists info about breast pumps, maternity clothing stores, and kids bedding info that we'd never ever considered.

Purchase this book (or the newest edition) because you won't be disappointed.

Summary: Amazing!
Review: My wife and I just bought this book and couldn't put it down! The info is amazing and up to date---our favorite part was the reviews of strollers and car seats. But the bargain tips were great. I was amazed the depth of the research. Two thumbs up!

Summary: Absolutely essential reading!
Review: Simply the most useful book on pregnancy and child rearing that I have bought since I found out I was pregnant. I can't imagine being pregnant without this book!

Summary: Yet another baby book ripe off!!
Review: I,like most first time parents, made the mistake of buying this hyped up book. It promises to save you 20-50% off things you "have" to buy. I feel the promise is a crock! The only thing I did like about this book was the product review. It listed which products were better then others. The only thing this book did help me with was buying a baby monitor. Most of the time the book points you to buy the more expesive items (such as baby Gap clothes) because they are supposed to stand up to more wear and tear or be better quality. Higher price doesn't equal higher quality. This book did not save me the 20-50% it promised to!!!

Summary: Excellent Education For First Time Parents
Review: I am about to become a first time father and my wife bought me this book for Fathers' Day. This book has proven indispensable. It covers the full range of what you need to know, what to buy and when. This last bit is important because it allows you to space out your purchases. The beauty of this book however, is that all of the research is already done for you. After reading the book we were able to take it with us into stores and we could streamline our shopping by skipping past the lesser items and going right to comparisons of the recommended items. Further, the book goies into detail of what items are wastes of money that you can do without. Also, by covering the full range of baby products available, the book brought some items to our attention we may not have otherwise even known about. As much as we love this book, we advise you take a little time to do your own research, especially on safety items (carseats, etc.). We think you'll agree with most of the authors' recommendations, but it's important to know that you've checked multiple resources and are comfortable with your final purchases.

Summary: Good beginner book to shop for Baby
Review: This book is a great suplement to reading consumer reports. The products that they review as the tops are generally the best. However, my only caveat in not giving this book 5 stars is the biased view towards Babies R Us. The descriptions of Babies R Us sound like no Superstore of that Brand that I have been in. They must have gotten some kind of an endorsement fee from them. I found the small independent retailers to be much more helpful and not more expensive in all cases.

Summary: Lotsa Good Stuff
Review: This is a must have for new parents. Lots of good information for a very small price.

Summary: The most useful "Expectant Parent" book we bought
Review: This book is an invaluable tool for expectant parents, especially first-time parents like us. The reviews of products are so helpful, and in nearly every category they give "Good", "Better", and "Best" choices, so it's so easy to save money with the Fields' recommendations! The nice thing is that the Fields' definition of "Best" doesn't NOT always mean "most expensive"...AND you can always feel comfortable with their less expensive recommendations. The advice in this book is very practical and it's nice to know when products have proven to be low quality and therefore not worth the money you might save in the purchase if you're going to end up replacing it later because it broke, didn't work right, wasn't safe, wore out too soon, shrunk, etc. Also helpful are the links to online stores and resources, the lists of outlet stores, etc...AND the benefits don't disappear after you're done reading the book...you can watch the Fields' Baby Bargains Web site for updates, corrections, etc., sign up for their e-newsletter, and participate in the message boards as well. The Fields themselves participate on the message boards and are really quite interactive with their readers who contact them. Our baby is due in late August and so far we've bought our crib, car seats, infant carrier, stroller, and bedding and some clothing...and we estimate that thanks to the Fields we've most likely saved a few hundred dollars...and best of all we feel like we've made sound, informed choices that we can be very comfortable with once our baby is here with us. This book is the book that keeps on giving, as far as we're concerned!

Summary: Absolutely Positively a MUST HAVE for 1st Time Moms!!!!
Review: THE definitive work on which baby products are useful/not useful, worth the $$$/not worth the $$$$, and safe or unsafe. While you may, in the end, agree or disagree with any one review, you will never disagree that what you pay for this book will be money well spent. A GREAT resource for manufacturer contacts (email/telephone/address) & an even better resource for GOOD advice on what is a "must have" & what is a "don't waste your money", this book is the one I have given to every first-time pregnant Mom since the first time I read it. The authors also happen to be extremely accessible via email for your input for future editions, as well as for dispensing valuable advice gleaned from thousands of other parents like you who have tried these products before you. More valuable than Consumer Reports for car seat safety, and more helpful than any other book on the market on how to prepare for your bundle(s) of joy... Baby Bargains is my Baby-Buying-Bible!

Summary: essential for first-time mom's-to be...
Review: Being pregnant with your first baby is overwhelming, especially when you enter a baby superstore and have no idea where to begin. This book reviews and rates everything from maternity clothes to strollers to breast pumps. It gives you a typical baby budget and shows you ways to shave $2400 off what most people spend. In each category they describe stores, brands, websites & catalogs. My favorite feature is the "waste of money" lists that prevent you from buying unecessary items. I have already been browsing the web, comparison shopping with help from this book. I plan to take it with me to Babies-R-us when I get ready to register for gifts, using their handy sample registry of true essentials.
