Summary: A Lifesaver!
Review: I don't know where we'd be without this book...probably lost in a sea of strollers, cribs, and car seats in the oh-so-intimidating world of Baby Superstores! The first time looking around a store we made a quick exit due to overwhelming choices of baby products. Then we found this book, and it saved our sanity. Our next trip to the baby superstore was so organized and simple...we knew exactly what to look for and what to ignore. This book is an absolute must-have for anyone looking to buy the best quality and best value baby products. And it gives a lot of advice in general in what not to do to misuse any of these products. This is the best book we ever could have purchased!

Summary: Good reference, but........
Review: Being a first-time mom, with no one local to help me out with purchases and not wanting to spend our retirement fund on the child, I saw this book and instantly purchased it.

First, the pluses. I love the pull-out checklist (it's the size of a large bookmark) in the back of the book. It summarizes all the key points of what to look for in shopping for cribs, strollers, car seats, what layette you really need, etc. And about that what layette you really need - that has got to be the most helpful chapter, at least for me, in the entire book! They do pay special attention to Canandian distributors, which can be a real lifesaver for those who live near the border and are on a budget. (A hint: if an item is labeled "Made in Canada", you don't have to pay duty on it!) Their "wastes of money" sections are valuable also.

Now, the minuses. Some of the things that they say are "essentials", I would argue with. Over [$] on maternity clothing? Half of which should be underwear? Come on now. They also tremendously undervalue the usefullness of online auctions. I also found the chapters did not flow well AT ALL. They jumped around a lot, and it was difficult to refer back to information, especially web sites.

My biggest gripe about the book, and the reason I did not give it 5 stars: they harp on their website. Check it out for this! Check it out for that! Well, I did, and it [stinks]! It's not been updated in over 7 months! Don't spend all your time touting a website, and then not maintain it. (It also is poorly constructed and difficult to navigate.)

Overall, it will save me money, mostly because I was clueless about the whole process. But if you are returning to motherhood, or have a large support network, then you can probably learn just as much by asking around.

Summary: Be Aware !!
Review: I bought this book because I was going to be a first time mom and didn't know anything about baby stuff. I followed everything the book said and I could not be more disappointed and angry. Some examples: this book said to get Huggies diaper because it was just as good as Pampers but cheaper. Well, Huggies leaked and got damp as soon as my baby peed. All the diaper problems went away as soon as I switched to Pampers. This book lists the amount of baby clothes you should get. Don't listen to it unless you enjoy doing laundry every day! The book also give its highest rating for Combi Ultra Savvy stroller. Just check out the rating and comments for this same stroller at Amazon. Need I say more? Just be careful new moms and dads. I don't think the authors did any research on their recommended products (like they claim to have done).

Summary: must have!!
Review: If you're pregnant you HAVE to have this book! If you like saving money, or even just like to have a resource giving you information and opinions on brands, this is fantastic!!! The second one I've read, and I love hw the new ones have the websites too!!!! This is just as important as a good Dr. Sears book when you're expecting a new arrival! :)

Summary: A Must Have!
Review: I was skeptical too, as a die-hard Consumer Reports fan I did not want to take a chance with some other title. But, I read the reader reviews and decided to take a chance with Baby Bargains and I am definitely not sorry! I've already saved [money] on the bedding I love, but which is never discounted. I reference this book for everything. Definitely recommended.

Summary: Add this book to your must have baby library
Review: I highly recommend this book, not as much so for the baby bargains as for the thorough reviews of just about every baby product you can think of. No doubt most parents-to-be will agree that the selection of baby products on the market are overwhelming. This book not only helps you to choose the best and safest baby products, but also helps to determine which items are really necessary. Babies are expensive, but at least with the information in this book, you will know that you are getting the most for your money.

Summary: Don't fall prey to the baby buying frenzy.
Review: The baby industry is quite large and booming thanks to parents who think they have to have it all. One thing you do need is this book. It offers many tips on saving, places to shop, things you can avoid buying and necessities you can't live without. Before you run out and buy every item you find to be cute and functional flip through this gem. I suggest you 'Don't Leave Home Without It'!!

Summary: Fantastic guide
Review: Two people reccomended this book to me, and I will do the same for all of my friends when they are expecting! The ratings are easy to read (the authors use letter grades A, B+, B, C, etc.) and checklists are great. It listed brands I didn't know existed as well as companies that sell similar items under different names. I also used some of the websites and got free shipping on many products. Take this book with you when you register at the baby superstores!

Summary: A must have book for all parents
Review: This book is worth its weight in gold. It has made me feel empowered as a parent and has given me the knowledge to make informed choices on what to buy and what not buy. It simplified the many buying decisions that I faced and allowed me to focus on what matters most... time spent with my baby. Makes the perfect gift for new and expectant parents.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An Absolute Essential!
Review: This book is an life saver. As a first time mom, I was totally confused by all of the brands and items that are available. This book gives the reader a straight forward and realistic approach to buying baby and maternity items. I did not buy ANYTHING without consulting it first. ( I was embarassed that I brought it with me to Babies R Us when I registered only to see other women with the book as well.) I also read their other bridal/wedding books and highly recommend those too.
