Summary: A GREAT START
Review: A Great first book. Very easy to read and filled with great color photos. However the information is very general and in some areas not available at all. 101 essential tips... fails to cover anything dealing with water testing, ammonia levels, nitrates, nitrites and the like. This seems to me, important information that the author for what ever reason left out all together. The section on the fish itself, although colorful and informative, is very brief. Even the most common spicies were left out. A good book that could have been alot better.

Summary: DK-Aquarium Fish
Review: I first found this book in the library. Wonderful book! Great pics, easy to understand symbol key, easy references to decide which type of tank is best for you. I'm going to buy one of these for my own personal reference library. Very valuable book for the fish enthusiast! Especially those of us that are new to the enjoyment of a home aquarium.

Summary: Excellent photos & fish descriptions but lacking other info
Review: I found the book to be eye-catching, and informative about the specific physical descriptions.

However, I find that much of what I'm looking for isn't in the book-- specifics on water condition needs, behaviors and other details that seem to be included in a number of other aquarium books.

I bought this book nearly a year ago and I'm now back shopping for something a bit more satisfactory to my needs in the way of specifics on the fish.

Also, it is sometimes very scanty on other specifics-- such as diseases. For instance, it doesn't even mention "shims" or "shimmying" which has several causes, one being that the fish has gotten chilled, and other causes as well that are more disease-oriented. One-quarter page of one-line descriptions on diseases without any suggestions on treatment just doesn't qualify as an adequate, all-around aquarium book to me.

Summary: All the information on aquarium varieties you could need.
Review: I have had aquariums ever since I can remember. No other book has helped me in identifing my fish better. I can look at all the different varieties and quickly see how they would fit in with other fish and their eating habits, ect. Not to mention that the color pictures are wonderfully useful in indentification of fish. I have just recently gotten rid of my real aquarium and have taken up "virtual aquariums". My "Aquazone Deluxe" computer program allows for me to have all the fun of real fish with the click of a mouse. Recently my Eyewitness Handbook has come in handy more than ever and I find myself going back to it again and again for identification, social interactions, breeding, and feeding. I reccomend this great book for any aquarium enthusist!

Summary: Pretty good.
Review: I read this book and found it to be pretty worthwhile. It contains good information, but I don't think that it's completely thorough, though. What I like the most about this guide are the very good photographs that are in full color. You can't beat them. Dorling Kindersley always does an impressive job with the photos in all of their books that I have. One thing about this guide that I noticed is that it fails to discuss the nitrogen cycle. That's a very important subject that should have been included. Some of the various topics that are discussed are choosing your fish, aquarium equipment, and aquascaping. Also, information on several species of fish is included. This guide has some good basic information. It really just scratches the surface, though. I consider it to be a good reference guide, but not a definitive one. Worth a read.

Summary: Great for the price.
Review: I thought that this book had some great information for the new aquarium owner. The pictures were also great. However, if you know a little about aquariums, don't get this book thinking you'll learn many new things. The pictures and the explanations about types of fish were great but not enough fish were covered.

Summary: Ok for the price or a - - 3 stars
Review: Like all DK books this little (72 page) book is very pretty and well organized. Unfortunately it provides little info and also misleads the buyer. At first glance it appears to cover 101 fish ("101 Aquarium Fish" is in large print) but only 40 fish are covered and 5 of these are just different types of goldfish. Of the remaining 61 "Essential Tips" included are: Tip #61-Clubs, discusing joining a club, and tip #45 Choosing Prepacked Food, showing photos of different food types ie flakes (2 types shown), pellets, tablets etc.
