Rating: Summary: Buying your first diamond 101 Review: This is a great book for people who want to shop their very first diamond. I find it extremely useful. It gives you enough knowledge before you want to spend $ wisely. Check out the book from your local library first if you just want to gain some education.
Rating: Summary: The BEST! Review: This is a small investment that could save you thousands of dollars. This book explained perfectly, the process of purchasing a diamond. The Jeweler Questionnaire Sheet alone is worth the cost of the book! It saves you lots of time and money. When I went to a store to ask for a VS1, E color, .90 carat, diamond with reference to table area, crown and pavilion angles, they thought I was a jeweler. And I had only read the book about 30 minutes prior in 1.5 hours!
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good, But Beware Review: This is by far the most popular book on diamonds out there, and it's pretty good. But be careful. Fred talks about a lot of things in such absolutist terms it can be dangerous to follow. Perhaps he's on the cutting edge, but perhaps he's a little smoke and mirrors. And he'll make you paranoid, convincing you everyone out there (except him of course) is out to screw you. Read his book, it's a great starter, but get some others too.
Rating: Summary: A Very Useful Guide Review: This was recommended to us by a friend and my boyfriend claims that it has been very useful in helping him to make educated decisions about settings and stones in making the big purchase!
Rating: Summary: Excellent, No-nonsense Guide Review: Very clearly written with detailed explainations and diagrams. The book throughly debunks all the myths surrounding diamond purchasing. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!!!! Review: Very comprehensive. One will go into any jewelry store with complete confidence; and know exactly when you may encounter less than honest jewelers. Easy to understand and a pleasure to read, and I hate books.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: We were so lost when we started diamond shopping. But this book helped us get a grip on what we needed to know without giving us too much to deal with. We too have asked for Fred's help purchasing a stone, but we don't feel at all like we're being sucked in, we asked him for help, it's not like he called us. His prices are well worth the quality he offers, and the peace of mind is priceless. We can't wait to get our stone, and it's probably going to be from him!
Rating: Summary: Buy this book before you start shopping! Review: Well worth the money--well worth 10x or even 100x the price, considering the amount of money you may save.Fred provides insights from inside the industry, and his information is empowering. Most jewelry stores were intimidated by the amount of knowledge that I had, due largely to reading Fred's book. I wound up corresponding and even speaking with Fred personally--his ultimate goal in life is to help everyone purchase the right diamond and be happy.
Rating: Summary: this is the kind of jeweler you want to have Review: While I was working in the jewelery industry, I got this book to give me more knowledge about diamonds. It was so helpful! He talks about shapes, imperfections, setting, fakes, and on and on. He covers every aspect of the diamond industry, and includes proposal ideas and other anecdotes. He definately knows what he's talking about. He has a very strict guide for jewelers and I know that most stores will not live up to his expectations (like a lifetime complete refund... that's fairly rare). But there is plenty of valuable info in here for every guy looking for an engagement ring or women looking to buy something special for herself. Check out his website as well. His ideas are fabulous and insightful.
Rating: Summary: Become a savvy diamond buyer Review: Within 2-3 hours, you can become an intelligent diamond buyer. There is a great section on how to pre-screen diamond sellers over the phone that will weed out the swindlers. This book saved me money, time, and peace of mind in knowing I got the best diamond for my money.
