Summary: Finally THE book to use for my College Bowl team!
Review: As captain of my College Bowl team, this book is a must have! Never in one book have I found such a comprehensive amount of information. This book covers so many topics, all in easy to find categories, something that all trivia books I've read before this one lack. I competed in past years and am familiar with many of the type of questions the College Bowl competition asks. This ONE book had the information found in almost every question from last years comp. I am so glad I came across this find, I have made sure that at some time before our competition, my entire team must get this book and read it!

Summary: $2 million question
Review: Congrats to Mr. Ferrill with the $2,200,000 question in his book from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. I looked it up and found the correct answer before the winner could go even answer it. (Page 114) I just ordered a second copy of this book to keep in my desk at work. Great book!

Summary: Interesting trivia read and good prep for contests
Review: Despite a good number of errors, all pointed out in detail in these reviews, I found this an interesting book that had lots of fun facts. Its great for reading out loud to friends to have them guess the answers as well as trying to remember some of them yourself.

I used this book as a study guide for a jeopardy tryout and there were a number of answers from this book. You will need to study it in more detail than I did and you hopefully will have a better result. If using this to study for a game show, I would also suggest adding an atlas and some information on popular culture.

Summary: Great book, to err is human.
Review: I agree with the other reviewer who said that another edition should come out with the errors fixed. In defense of Mr. Ferrill, this is a wonderful, well-organized, comprehensive, interesting book; and there are always going to be a few disputed "facts" in any book, news show, encyclopedia, documentary, historical account, and especially the intangible compendium of community "general knowledge". However, Mr. Ferrill, I'm sure you take great pride in your work..... so proofread your book YOURSELF for spelling errors and typos, and inaccuracies before publication if necessary. Don't allow sloppiness and poor attention to detail deter from the powerful impact of your otherwise excellent finished product.

Summary: Best Trivia Book on the market
Review: I am a collecter of Trivia books and this one rates as #1. As a scholar bowl coach, I am always looking for material and the format of this book is excellent. All the material is in a very compact format, which makes for an easy study. The amount of material in the book is incredible, covering everything from A to Z, from pop culture to politics to literature. This book is a must for anyone considering trying out for a quiz show. The only negative that I have found is a couple errors (such as the first 5 members of the Baseball Hall of Fame). However, 2 of 3 errors out of thousands of questions is certainly worth it. I have purchased 1 copy for myself and many more for gifts to other triva buffs.

Summary: JEOPARDY! Hopeful Finds Gold
Review: I am a person who has taken the test to appear on JEOPARDY! and passed it. I have often wondered, should I ever get that call I've been waiting for (to appear on the show), how I would prepare myself.

The problem is solved with this book. It covers EVERYTHING, and is extremely valuable because of how it ties pertinent information together. To use an example given by the author, if a question is asked about a Norwegian playwright, the answer is probably Henrik Ibsen. It's not that Ibsen is the only Norwegian playwright, but he's the one they are likely going to ask about.

There is another book by Michael DuPee (I forget the title), that is also very good, but this one (Ferrill's) contains an order of magnitude more information and it is packaged in a way that makes it very easy to study.

Summary: Mr. Jennings was right
Review: I believe it when Ken Jennings said this book helped him prepare for Jeopardy. I think if I was smart enough to memorize everythng in this book, I could will a million bucks on Jeopardy too.

Summary: Needs to be Proofread!
Review: I bought this book to help me study for my upcoming test and audition for the t.v. game show Jeopardy! It came highly recommended by some who have appeared on quiz shows. While it does cover the material thoroughly that regularly appears on such shows, there is one downside: so many typographical errors! Many of the errors are obvious, but one that nearly tripped me up was a misspelling of the capitol of Belize. Luckily I double checked my information and caught it, but if I didn't, that could have thrown me off and cause me to miss a critical question.

Overall, I recommend this book, but with a caution that you need to double check facts and not use this book as a foolproof reference for quiz show study.
