Review: After reading other comments for this book, I must say that in its defense, Paramedics in Texas ARE LICENSED. We are licensed if we have a formal degree in addition to our paramedic training. So some paramedics ARE licensed.

Summary: If you are looking for a review book, look somewhere else.
Review: As a paramedic student, I hope to have the most accurate and up to date review material. This review book fulfills neither of those needs. Upon showing this book to a number of experienced medics, they outright questioned the validity and knowledge of the author. The facts in this book are incorrect and thus dangerous to anyone hoping to pass the paramedic exam.

Review: Excellent review for NREMT-P written exam. There are four 180 question practice exams plus much more about the test. Could have included more questions on management of cardiac emergencies. Can't complain besides that. Good luck!!

Review: I recently used this book for a pre-admittance test to my EMS instructor course. I found it helpful because the tests are structured like the National Registry for Paramedics test. As you may know, the NR requires a passing score for each individual section (Trauma, Medical, OB/GYN, Cardiovascular), in addition to an overall passing score. The book gave me insight on my weak points so I was able to concentrate on those. I recommend this book even though it did have some questionable answers to some material (as do most tests), if I had a doubt I looked it up. Also, depending on how recent the book has been updated or which copy you may have, some of the material on ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS may be outdated as there have been recent changes.

This just shows the quality of editing. When I was asked the proper rx for a trauma pt and was advised against c-spine and toward a bolus of D50, I wondered what I had missed in class. The only justification the text gave was something along the line of, "Answer C gives the correct treatment for this patient". What a JOKE!!! Don't waste your money or time!

Summary: Highly predictive of NREMT-P Exam Results
Review: I was a little skeptical about whether these exams were any good, but I didn't know which one to pick and this one was in the library. I also thought that only 4 exams wasn't a lot of practice. In any event, I took all four exams in the week before the NREMT exam for practice and scored between 80 and 85; my actual score on the NREMT exam was 84.I scored worst on the last one (80), which was a little disconcerting. Also, I would have found it helpful if they would give the reader a way to figure out which category a question was in; I had a sense that I was a little weak in medical emergencies (70 on the NREMT exam), but it was not at all obvious just looking at a question if it was a medical, airway or trauma question (say - in which category does smoke inhalation belong?). I also scored better on OB/peds (90) on the NREMT exam than I did on the practice tests in general. These are quibbles, though. For me, results matter, and the fact that I took 5 tests (4 in this book and one "real" one on the NREMT exam) and scored within 5 points all of them is a very strong recommendation.
