Rating: Summary: A necessary book for the beginning student of Arabic Review: (By Edward Trimnell, author of "Why You Need a Foreign Language & How to Learn One," ISBN:1591133343)If you have only studied European languages, then you are in for mild shock when you delve into the world of Arabic verbs. Not only are Arabic verbs difficult--but you also have to learn them through the unfamiliar medium of the Arabic script. This book cushions the impact of Arabic grammar, without treating the subject superficially. By the time you finish this book, you will have a good working knowledge of Arabic verbs and other grammar essentials. In addition, the authors have helpfully anticipated that the reader may still be getting up to speed on Arabic writing. Although Arabic script is used throughout the book, there are also Latin alphabet transliterations.

Rating: Summary: a good start, but that's it Review: First off, it looks like I might have an older edition of this book, so maybe it has been improved. The edition I have is concise, with some errors, and is okay as a reference for beginning students. It's quick and simple to use. But it's nowhere near in-depth enough for advanced students, and even intermediate learners will find it frustrating a fair amount of the time. Use it in conjunction with a variety of other resources.
Rating: Summary: A must-have for anyone learning the Arabic language Review: I use this book every day to supplement my Arabic language text. It simply and in an organized fashion explains grammatical details. It especially helps those who lack excellent English technical grammar skills, "translating" difficult terms (what's a subjunctive?) into simple English.
Rating: Summary: Arabic Grammar at an English Pace... Review: If you have no experience in Arabic grammar (like me), but you're serious about learning to read and write the language (like I'm trying to do), this is a good supplement to your other learning materials. If a grammatical question arises in your studies, it's probably answered here, but I wouldn't try using this book alone to learn to read and write Arabic. Mah Salama.
Rating: Summary: Excellent and Straightforward Review: In this book, the author does an excellent job of explaining the essentials of grammar without all of the fluff--very straightforward. Not for the beginning student -- although a great review for beginning students after their first full grammar course -- a gauge for what they have learned thus far. For students coming back after being away -- it is perfect. This author's other book, Mastering Arabic, while not perfect, is the best manual for learning Arabic that I've found (and I do a lot of looking).
Rating: Summary: A modern and accessible reference Review: My attempt to provide an up-to-date and accessible referencein this difficult area of Arabic study. If you like this approach, tryalso Mastering Arabic, a comprehensive, self-study book and audio course.
Rating: Summary: Excellent reference, not for starting Arabic Review: This book is a reference manual. It is packed full of information about Arabic verb conjugations and other grammatical information. The information is very spartan (the basic tenses, past and present, are pages 13-18), but it will show or remind the reader how things are supposed to work. It is an excellent companion to learning Arabic, or good for those with a background in languages who are curious "how Arabic works". However, if you are just starting other books like "The Arabic Alphabet" or "Teach Yourself Arabic Script", this book will go right over your head. It is a reference, not a grammar or primer in Arabic.
Rating: Summary: Suitable for beginner and intermediate level, practical Review: This book is easy to use, well structured. Arabic verb system is rather complicated, but with this aid you can even study on your own Transliteration is good, too. Doesn't matter if you are native English speaker or not. It is an absolute pleasure to have a book which shows the Arabic vowels - no more guessing. This book should be used from beginner to intermediate level. The essentials of nouns, adjectives, prepositions etc. in the end make you wish there were another book covering those parts of Arabic grammar just like this book covers verbs. Good cross-references help reader to find more information on specific topics. This book is a must, if you plan to study Arabic or have just started.
Rating: Summary: Aboo Imraan's review of Arabic Verbs and Essentials of Gramm Review: This book is excellent when you need to learn Arabic verbs using the English Medium and if you do not have access to an Arabic speaker who can check the way you pronounce the verbs. However do not rely too much on this book after you have completed the 3 Madeenah Arabic Grammar books. After you complete those three books you will be able by the will of Allah to read and comprehend the explanation of "Al-Ajurumiyyah" entitled "At-Tufah As-Saniyyah" by Muhammad Muhyee-ud-Deen and after that the explanation of "Al-Ajurumiyyah" by Shaykh Saalih al-Uthaymeen. Both books are in Arabic and after studying both of them many students of knowledge were able to comprehend the Arabic language better than some students who study Arabic in Yale or Princeton! So as a beginner book in learning the basics of the Arabic verbs then use it, but after you get into scholarly works of the Major Scholars then this book may end up collecting a lot of dust, just like my old copy that is just sitting in my maktabah. lol
