Rating: Summary: Excellent Classroom Text Review: "Voice and Articulation" by Kenneth C. Crannell is particularly well organized and can be used by the teacher/professor to establish a course outline; and then, to present specific exercises that are designed to address a wide variety of student needs. The Appendices describe distinctive language characteristics of various foreign languages to assist one to develop improved speech and accent reduction. I highly recommend this text for both personal use and to achieve classroom excellence.
Rating: Summary: The ONLY book for V&A Review: I studied at Emerson (Dr. Crannells stomping ground) where this was a requirement. Although we frequently referred to the class as Voice and Humiliation I really feel like the class (and book)were very helpfulThis really is the only book of its kind, and if you're interested in improving your speaking voice this is the standard.
Rating: Summary: The /ril dil/of V&A texts Review: I've been sharing Crannell's Voice and Articulation text with my college students and professional clients since 1987. This is the best text I have found to build a strong vocal and presentational foundation while addressing weaknesses to be identified and corrected. What I appreciate most is the text's winning combination of high performance standards and useful technical, anatomic, and phonetic information applicable to the beginner as well as the seasoned communication profesional. The proof is in the many success stories of students who have discovered new dynamic and flexible voices that reflect their personalities and talents with endless possibilities.

If your in college studying voice and articulation and do not have this book go and purchase this text and share it with your classmates and professor. You will be glad you did!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: Ten years later, this book still comes in handy! Everything from accent reduction to improving the quality of your speaking voice is covered in Dr. Crannell's text. I highly recommend this book to anyone who uses his/her voice often- particularly for work. Voice and Articulation would also be extremely useful for a person studying English as a second language. This is one book you need when it comes to the voice and how it is used/misused.
Rating: Summary: The standard for V&A texts. Review: This book is _the_ standard for Voice and Articulation texts. The writing is clear, the exercises effective, and the humor makes it enjoyable and accessible. I've noticed all the other V&A texts have been following Dr. Crannell's lead with the variety of exercises and content (particularly foreign accent reduction). Without this text, your voice may remain your humiliation. Perhaps what is even better than his text, is his teaching - nothing compares to that.
Rating: Summary: A comprehensive practical guide to vocal improvement. Review: This is an outstanding step-by-step guide to voice improvement. Each chapter includes clear explanations and instructions, illustrations, and loads of practice sentences to help one develop "career" speech. I have used this book as a student, instructor, and actor for many years with great success. Although most people may use this textbook to improve vocal tone and articulation, it is also an outstanding resource for actors who need to acquire an accent or dialect for a role. The large section on stage dialects and foreign accents shows the appropriate sound substitutions needed and includes practice exercises for each accent; actors will find this particularly useful. So, whether you want to improve your voice, or instruct a course in voice and diction, or prepare for the stage or screen, this is the one book you must have.

Rating: Summary: First Rate Review: This text has become the guide and standard that other authors are using in updating their books on the same subject! Crannell's analysis and exercises for accent reduction have been especially helpful to me in my work with international clients. The additional material on voice and presentation is of great value for everyone looking to improve their oral skills. The format of the book provides "lectures", vocal exercises, listening skills and practical homework to habituate new skills. This is a real gem for educators, performers or business communicaton professionals.
