Rating: Summary: 350wpm-1500wpm in Six Months. Newly discovered literacy. Review: I started this book only two weeks ago and have quadrupled my reading rate. I was a very slow reader and it caused me many dificulties. I tried many computer aplications and other books, but nothing truly helped like this book. It tells you exactly what the problem is and exactly how to fix it. Although its a fairly large time commitment, I found myself looking forward to the time I set aside to drill, just because I was so amazed at the improvements. It used to take me a month to get through a book, if I didn't get so tierd that I put it down, and now I can get through a 200 page book in around two hours!

Rating: Summary: Very helpful so far. Review: I was a problem reader--195wpm--and first bought the Evelyn Wood book. I'm in the middle of Kump's book and am finding it very helpful in pushing my speeds up to 400wpm. This makes a huge difference in the amount of material I can digest on a daily basis. What I like particularly about this book is that it is not just a how-to book, but a practice book. It guides you through drills with books of your own choice to help improve your speed.

Rating: Summary: Anyone who can't speed read is at a disadvantage Review: I was already what was considered a pretty fast reader by its tests; in the 400wpm (words per minute) range at maximum speed. After going through the first half of the book, I was well over a thousand for the vast majority of all text. This has enabled me to go from a book or two a month to reading two or three a week, and has fundamentally changed my life. Even after the first couple of weeks I was dramatically improved, and after a couple of months of daily use, I was just flying. On the bad side, I had trouble staying at the chapter per day pace, given a job, working on my Master's, and trying to spend time with my family. Still, I practiced, kept up with the new techniques, and continued to improve. Even though I left off just after I learned how to read at diagonals, it's stuck with me and been the best expenditure of time I've made. I can't believe this isn't taught in school; it would've made college a completely different experience for me.
Rating: Summary: This is a joke. Review: I'm a university student with top grades from my university in Canada. I find that with complicated material I tend to be a little slower reader so I set out to improve my speeds. I picked up this book and was very enthusiastic about becoming a better reader, however, I was disappointed. Using your finger is to say the least, annoying. When you increase speed you can surely understand what your reading but I find it very hard to maintain retention. If you're reading a newspaper or magazine, fine, but if it's something saturated in information it is not realisitic that you can improve your reading speed by 2 or 3 times with resonable retention with this text. Maybe if you went to the courses that the author offers over a few months you could improve, but I think it is a joke if you think this 10 dollar book will do the trick.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for retention and recall Review: Only practice makes a man perfect.Peter's book is capable to increase everything-Speed Reading,Comprehension,Retention and Recall. You just need to practice drills and comprehension tips for long time. Also read-Power Reading.
Rating: Summary: Speed reading with improved comprehension? Can't beat that Review: Peter Kump's Breakthrough rapid reading has lived up to it's title. Lately I have been wandering around libraries and catalogs looking for a good book to help my comprehension and recall for the Verbal section of the SAT. I picked up this book and noticed that it had substantially more comprehension sections than any other speed reading book I had seen previously. After 3 days into the course not only could I understand more of my reading, but I had more than tripled my reading rate (176 wpm to 610 wpm [no joke!]). This book takes much practice, but if you are as dedicated as I am, it will be no problem. This book explains that there are different types of reading. It will help you in every aspect of your reading life...guaranteed...
Rating: Summary: Awesome book. Doubled speed after 3 chapters! Review: There are a few books to choose from on the subject of Speed Reading.. It was hard to make a decision, but this one definitely works for me [so far]. After using just a few of the techniques in the beginning chapters of the book--I've literally doubled my reading speed. Great book though. I like how it actually explains the concepts supporting the techniques. There is also a paperback (second edition)--but don't see it at Amazon.
Rating: Summary: It's like a paper teacher! Review: This book will help you to organize your learning process. A lot of drills. It's really helpful. For me it is a best book of speed reading I have. The other problem is if you are strong enough to keep learning till the end.
