Summary: Disappointment for Beginners
Review: As an Antique dealer of many years, I've become familiar with the pattern names, but since I did not sell (or buy) any, I knew very little about the patterns themselves. While the book is well written and laid out, I was vey disappointed in the pictures. Very few photographs showed the actual pattern itself, leaving you to view a distant image and try and figure out what's in it. I'm sure at least one picture of only the pattern could be included, instead of several pictures of different colors. I'm sure the veterans out there find this invaluable, but for a beginner, this leaves alot to be desired.

Summary: An excellent, exhaustive reference for the glass collector..
Review: Florence is the acknowledged expert when it comes to glass. This book contains literally hundreds of patterns of depression glass, arranged alphabetically. Each pattern comes with a history of the company who created it, specifics on styles within the patterns, answers to common questions, and a price guide. The photographs are professional and well-lit and make it easy to identify various subtle differences from one pattern to the next. All in all the book is a real treat to read, and makes me want to run out and buy more depresson glass! Don't hesitate, buy this book!

Summary: Don't Internet Shop for Depression Glass Without the Book
Review: Gene Florence's many pictorial guides to collectible antique glass are all wonderful and this beautiful fifteenth edition on Depression Glass is no exception. It contains hundreds of pieces of Depression Glass with details on the glass companies that made them, the history, the availability, individual pieces, price ranges, colors, patterns, etc. The photographs are all clear and very useful for identification purposes. Some vintage photos of advertisements show a few of the collections in their entirety.
This book is essential if you are planning to start collecting Depression Glass because you can see what pieces were produced and you can learn how feasible it will be to collect complete sets. There is valuable information about reproductions. Glass collecting today is often done over the Internet and some dealers sell Depression Glass with little knowledge of the particular patterns, their dimensions, or their distinctive qualities. It is easy to get similar looking pictures confused and end up with pieces that do not belong in your collection. Sometimes descriptions are in complete error. This book is an extremely helpful, professional guide that can prevent costly mistakes. It is also just plain fun to read up on the old historical pieces, such wonderful Americana art. Warning: You may get bitten by the Depression Glass bug just by paging through this lovely book. Have fun at the garage sales, antique stores and malls, antique shows, and auctions, but don't leave home without it! Check out Gene Florence's other great books, too. Another personal favorite of mine is Collectible Glassware from the 40s, 50s, 60s.

Summary: Excellant tool for Depression Glass novice or collector
Review: I am really impressed with the easy to read and understand profiles of each pattern & items. The book is very thorough, including what items, colors, sizes, prices and general availability. A must have for anyone with any interest in Depression Glass. Pictures are well displayed, so that patterns are recognizable when out looking. I especially reviewed the repro section which is very informative.

Summary: A Great Resource for All Collectors
Review: I bought this book when I was just starting in the business. I found it a very thorough and easy to use reference. The pictures are just large enough to see the detail of the patterns represented without adding to the bulk and price of the book. True, it would be nice to see close-ups of the patterns, but that is what his Pattern Identification Guide is for. I often cross-referenced the two books to be completely sure of the identification of my find.

Review: I can't say enough about this reference. The pictures are Awesome, the prices are right on the mark and the patterns are WELL represented. I have used this book EVERY day since it arrived in my mailbox over a year ago. If you purchase only one book on the subject this is the one to buy.

Summary: A BIG HELP
Review: I have been storing some pink depression dishes for approximately 12 years. I used some of them but never had anywhere to display them. I bought this book and found the value of most of the pieces. The author also included valuable information about distinguishing between the authentic pieces and reproductions.

I was able to price the pieces and get close to what the book indicated as the value-sometimes more.
