Summary: moonwalking
Review: It is a book typical for any public entity. It confirm my opinion
library is for librarians not for regular public.
The idea behind is simple book have to be suitable for kids under 12.Sure plenty of pages for sport.
When I visited New York public library and ask for New York phone
books the answer was simple - we dont have it.
But they sure have desk reference.

Summary: This book will save your life and make you rich!
Review: OK, it won't make you rich or save your life. How do I know that? I looked it up in this book. This book has the answers to everything. It knows where I'm sitting right now. It helps me with my relationships. It talked me down after a fight with my dog. This is the only reference book God owns. It is all you will ever need. Honestly, I LOVE this book. It is the greatest bathroom reading ever... it makes me want to go to the bathroom all the time. I have increased by fiber intake exponentially just to give me a reason to page through this book. If this book were a woman, I would marry this book, and never cheat on it like I do all the other books. That's right. You heard me. You can never go wrong with this book. It is all things to all people. It will change your life. It will make you smarter. You will be the next Ken Jennings. It's true. I am now a Mormon software engineer. Amazing? Unbelievable? I don't know -- why don't you read the book and find out? It is behind you as you read this, watching you... protecting you. It is the most important thing on Earth. We must never let the terrorists get this book or they will know how to beat us. That's in there -- page 312. Guard page 312 with your life.

I love this book. I wish I was this book. I want to be cremated with this book, so our ashes merge and my soul is filled with all the knowledge in the universe. If you read this book, you will understand the mind of God. In fact, you may overpower him. Oh, no... I was wrong. It says so on page 422. Man, what a book!

Summary: Unjust judgements
Review: Perhaps, Alex Ferdman should become literate before he or she writes an opinon of this reference that affects the overall rating of the guide. This is a wonderful guide for either librarians or the average book owner. I am a library science major and find this book extremely useful for all uses.

Summary: Brimming with an array of facts, tables, and instructions
Review: The New York Public Library Desk Reference is a high-density information source brimming with an array of facts, tables, and instructions. The strength of this book is its preponderance of "evergreen" facts such as lists of U. S. presidents, major holidays from around the world, cooking tips, financial and legal information, astronomical events, grammar, etiquette, first aid, tables of weights and measures, and stain removal instructions. Other information, such as URLs for Internet sites, various telephone numbers, and addresses will be outdated

As some have noted, there are some shortcomings and typos, but while puzzling, such flaws should not deter folks who want fast access to data, facts, dates, and schedules from including this volume to their desktop reference set.

Summary: The best handy & informative book I've ever seen.
Review: This book is full of helpful information about almost everything comes to anybody's mind. It is a very good source of information.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Ideal
Review: This book is the perfect reference product. It has every possible topic of research in it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Invaluable - if you can crosscheck
Review: This is a fantastic book to have on your shelf for those times when you simply must know something right this minute. But I don't recommend it as a stand alone source because there are some errors in it (surprising for a 3d edition).

Still, as a general reference, this volume is unsurpassed. On the whole, it rates as "very good" - the scope is broader than any other book of its kind and it's laid out well enougn that it's pretty easy to find the information you want when you need it.

Summary: Great General Reference Book
Review: This is an excellent reference book for the house. Anytime my wife or I have a broad or general question our first stop is this book. I can't wait until they produce an updated one. The only thing about this book is that some small facts seem to be slightly off; e.g. the enlisted grades for the United States Air Force still list an E-4 as a Buck Sergeant which was changed to Senior Airman around 1995 or so. Because of this small discrepancy sometimes I question the facts in the book since I don't necessarily have first hand knowledge to verify there data. Overall this has been a great book and I would recommend it to anyone.
