Rating: Summary: READ THIS BOOK WITH AN OPEN MIND!! Review: Read with an open mind and you will get results!!!! The reader from England obviously didn't read the entire book since the idea is not actually 'read'. All I can say is that this book accelerates learning to such a high degree. I myself didn't get much results in the beginning, hardly if any. But time and practice is all it takes. It's like learning to drive, you don't master driving skills in one sitting, you have to practice enough times before you can get results. And this book does just that; it teaches a faster (more convenient) way of 'reading', I would consider it cheating since I am a high school student. I get essays and books done within an hour which used to take me few days!!!!! Get it if you want to 'honestly cheat'!!!
Rating: Summary: don't buy this book unless you have money to burn Review: Sorry but you can't read a book by flipping pages one a second and believe that your going to get anything out of it. I believe that there may be some subconcious processing going on but that doesn't help your concious understanding. The later stages of the technique were sensible but most of the techniques I already use. Do yourself a favour and save your money!
Rating: Summary: Takes Accelerative Learning to a Whole New Level! Review: I'd give this book ten stars if I could! Just as the late great sleeping prophet Edgar Cayce was able to access the other than conscious mind to absorb the information contained in many books by literally sleeping on them, you too will be able to tap the enormous abilities of your own inner mind by reading and using the simple steps detailed in this book! By using this book my school work has become so much easier. I PhotoRead 6-7 books one evening and the next day wrote an annotated bibliography on them in about an hour's time. My professor confessed that it was the best annotated bibliography that he had EVER read! This system works. Practice it and you will never go back to the traditional method of reading. My comment to anyone who says that this PhotoReading does not, or cannot work, is that it just has to be practised a little bit more by some people, and that openness is a necessary key for accessing the PhotoReading state necessary. Doubt is the biggest "monkey wrench" in this system. Just remember that your subconscious mind has remembered everything since even before you were born! The difficulty has been in accessing that enormous storehouse of information. Now you can learn from this book that the information is made available through a clear intention set just prior to PhotoReading. Please, just buy this book, try it's methods consciensciously, and be amazed!
Rating: Summary: Easy to follow "how to" for serious reading & learning. Review: Paul Scheele's PhotoReading Book is a wonderfully detailed "step by step" introduction to his PhotoReading Whole Mind system. It's a "must read" for anyone planning to take a PhotoReading seminar or the Home Study course, and a valuable companion and reference for those who have already experienced the power of PhotoReading. I experienced PhotoReading for the first time 5 years ago by attending a 3 day seminar with my husband and daughter -- the results of applying the Whole Mind System to our reading have been extraordinary, we will never read any other way again. The book allows the reader to analyze the way they now read, and proceed step by step to change from old reading techniques to an entire new way of approaching reading material. The "tangerine technique" in itself makes a big difference when applied to regular reading. The ultimate test to PhotoReading Whole Mind System is Syntopic Reading - the understanding of the material processed is profound and accomplished in a fraction of the time. All I can say is: Play with it, stay with it, and notice the changes in your reading and learning. I know I did! For anyone who is serious about tapping into the vast potential of their mind power that is currently not being used, this book is an excellent starting point. MEE. California
Rating: Summary: It works but be patient with it Review: Unlike more conventional speed-reading, photoreading forces your mind to assimilate information differently. Thus, photoreading is in effect a whole new way of learning, and the "immediate" success of it varies individual to individual. A friend of mine and I started the program about the same time. Within the first week, she was getting phenomenal results with Photoreading. Though my results were much less spetacular, I too noticed a significant improvement in my learning. If you already know speed-reading, you can actually use it with Photoreading to further improve the speed. Essentially, Photoreading really isn't about "speed", but "comprehension." I really do understand my textbooks much, much better in less time with photoreading. I've read that it takes most people about a month before they become proficient at it. For less than $15, this revolutionary system is simply too good to pass up!
Rating: Summary: You probably won't learn to PhotoRead from this book Review: However, for me the jury is still out if PhotoReading works or not. I bought the home study tapes and I have been encouraged somewhat, although not nearly to the same extent as the other reviewers here. A salesperson at Learning Strategies told me "that practically no one" learns to PhotoRead from the book alone. Buy the book only to get an idea of what PhotoReading is about, and then be prepared to spend $250 for the home study course if you want to explore it further. In my opinion even if half of what they claim is true, it's worth the investment.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: I read it during a seminar, it does work. Worth the buying. I'm a thelogy student and the reading load has been reduced almost to a tenth.
Rating: Summary: Revolutionary System Review: Photoreading is really not about "speed reading." That is, if you know already how to do traditional speed reading, you can use with the photoreading system for even faster results. But, photoreading is really a new way of assimilating information. I've worked with different kinds of reading methodolgies, and photoreading truly breaks from the pack. However, it's not something you can learn in one or two sessions. My friend, for example, has been using it for just over 2 weeks and swears by it now. I've seen significant improvements myself, but at a slower rate. They say that it takes a month to become adept at it, which is certainly worth the investment.
Rating: Summary: Hocus Pocus Review: I (having an open mind) tried many of his techniques he puts forward in his book. Getting into his "accelerated learning state", previewing and "photo reading" a book. Waiting 24 hours and attempting to "activate" this knowledge. However, it simply doesn't work! You simply cannnot bring information from your inner mind to your conscious mind! The book also happens to be full of several lies. For example, he claims the existance of something called a "point of attention". He claims that this point's most important point of focus(?) is the back of the head! Now, this is the lie, he claims that a wizards cap, a thinking cap, and a dunce cap all were designed to focus this point! A dunce cap was originally produced to draw attention to a individual in the corner of a room in school, as punishment! Not to focus his point of attention! Another funny thing about this was he has you visualize a tangerine sitting on your head to focus this point! However, I do believe that it would help your reading in several small ways. First of all You learn some basic speed reading techniques. Secondly, he teaches you to set down and make an agenda for what you are reading. In other words you state what you are looking for exactly. These may help some people who do not have much of an idea of what they are looking for in their book.
Rating: Summary: The Best Speed Reading system Available Review: I first read Photoreading about 3 years ago. At the time I was completing my electronics Diploma. About 2 years later I decided that I wanted to do a BSc Computer Science Degree part time. This would have normally taken me about 6yrs+. At the moment I am half way through my degree in 2 yrs. I'm studying 8 subjects per year part time, which is more than most fulltime students ! I also am spending about 2hrs per day working. With the occassional longer session. What this means is that in effect I'm doing a fulltime degree with a 5th of the effort ! Truly a must buy if you want to learn exceptionally fast and prosper in all areas of your life ! Kind Regards David A Lucas
