Rating: Summary: Easy to follow "how to" for serious reading & learning. Review: Paul Scheele's PhotoReading Book is a wonderfully detailed "step by step" introduction to his PhotoReading Whole Mind system. It's a "must read" for anyone planning to take a PhotoReading seminar or the Home Study course, and a valuable companion and reference for those who have already experienced the power of PhotoReading. I experienced PhotoReading for the first time 5 years ago by attending a 3 day seminar with my husband and daughter -- the results of applying the Whole Mind System to our reading have been extraordinary, we will never read any other way again. The book allows the reader to analyze the way they now read, and proceed step by step to change from old reading techniques to an entire new way of approaching reading material. The "tangerine technique" in itself makes a big difference when applied to regular reading. The ultimate test to PhotoReading Whole Mind System is Syntopic Reading - the understanding of the material processed is profound and accomplished in a fraction of the time. All I can say is: Play with it, stay with it, and notice the changes in your reading and learning. I know I did! For anyone who is serious about tapping into the vast potential of their mind power that is currently not being used, this book is an excellent starting point. MEE. California
Rating: Summary: Don't be suckered Review: It sounds great doesn't it? Read a book as fast as you can turn a page, almost science fiction. You'll notice those who gave it 5 stars claim you must be open minded, accepting of the teachings. Almost like they are recruiting you for a cult. Probably their cult which is members recruited by the author/publisher to write glowing reviews so you will buy the book. Here's a tip I learned after being burned by another book that was pure trash but received glowing reviews by almost everyone. Head over to any other major book site where customers write reviews and see if the same people have copied and pasted their glowing reviews over there. Yup, probably have. If you get this book because you think you will be transformed into this magical, speed reading god, think again. Get a decent book on speed reading that claims down to earth results (double your rate) by using accepted techniques.
Rating: Summary: Total wrong Review: Do yourself a favor - do not get this. It is very wrong. You will not learn to read 30,000 words a minute - or even increase your speed. This course teaches how to read by not really reading. With a little meditation and some pop-PSYCHOLOGY - they hope to keep you trying and make you think the problem is with you. News flash: this course DOES NOT work! Pediod.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating Book - must read Review: Like most of the other reviewers, I had heard the radio advertisements, and bought the book based on the promised results. Having read the book, and used it's techniques, I would recommend it to everyone. While I noticed some remarkable results immediately, the true rewards came as I became more familiar with the system. I am now reading all types of books, magazines and web-pages in about 1/3 the time as I had been reading before reading the book. However, I've also noticed better memory over-all. I can recall events, conversations and facts much better than previously. More imporantly, though, the techniques this book teaches go beyond reading, and have helped me in other areas of my life. It has changed my outlook on how I learn, and what I think I can accomplish in life. This book has shown me what I'm truly capable of. I have purchased this book for several of my friends and family, and would recommend it to anyone reading this review. Fair warning, though, this book is just a high-level overview. The author also offers a tape series and in-person seminars with more detailed info on the techniques. While the book does give you enough to get started, I assume that it's just to whet your appetite, and to get you to purchase the (much more) expensive tapes and seminars. However, I haven't purchased either, and have had great success with the book alone.
Rating: Summary: Possible but not probable Review: My last review was "A New Kind of Plagiarism", about the book by Wolfram (or should I say about the fraud committed by him?). I mention this because no stooge will take the trouble to write so much about intellectual dishonesty (if there is no money involved). I believe that reading subliminally works. The first report I have found about this technique was mentioned by Key on his "Subliminal Seduction" books (he mentions reading speeds upwards 10,000 wpm). Then came the Subliminal Dynamics course, then Paul Scheele stole the idea from them after taking their course! (And they have his signature to prove it). Still I have never found a decent description about how to develop such ability. I can attest to the veracity of the hunch-like effects the method produces (you get depressed by subliminally absorbing a sad novel for example), but I have certainly never seen (or experienced myself) the effect of actually remembering hard data from the source. I believe that this method is still "looking" for someone to develop it properly. If you think that I am mistaken and that the above mentioned courses work then answer this: HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE CONTROLLED STUDY PROVING THE EFFICACY OF THIS TYPE OF "READING" AFTER SO MANY YEARS? Just look at the actual speed-reading world records achieved in the "Mental Olympiads" (3000 wpm more or less). To quench the controversy, people with vested interests in this method should provide (and very cheaply I might add) scientific proof of its validity, the fact that no one has done this casts a very serious doubt about the actual effectiveness of such procedures...
Rating: Summary: I'm not being paid to write this but IT WORKS! Review: Have you noticed that people reviewing this book either loved it or hated it? Well, if you have an open mind, this will work. It's a great way to take apart a book (great for technical stuff) and go after the info that you need. This is not for ripping through a trashy novel on a beach, which you would want to take your time and get absorbed! I'm a computer programmer and have absorbed the info that I need from a programming book in less time than ever before. The people that are ripping on this book are closed minded and this will prevent them from getting results. I'd go to the library and check it out and please go at it with an open mind. It will change the way you read!
Rating: Summary: A Whole Mind System Review: This is truly different so I understand where the bad reviews are coming from. It is a big time change that takes effort in order to grow use to. The thought of involving the whole mind (Left and Right brain) appeals to me. I know that I have not tapped into even 1/4 of my potential due to traditional ways of thought and study. This method is new to me and I will do all I can to learn it and use it. I have been using it for about a week now and can say that I have had different results in speed and remembering the material. I would contribute this to the steps and asking questions for purpose in reading the material. It is a no non-sense approach to reading that I have enjoyed so far. I read a lot of books and will be practicing this method with mainly technical material. I can say that my reading and comprehension have jumped up to an acceptable rate. Reading with more of a purpose has also helped me to zero in on the answers that I ask after the preview or postview steps. Overall I would recommend this to someone who is looking for better ways to learn at increased speeds. So far just focusing on the techniques have allowed me to see the difference. Thanks and good luck!
Rating: Summary: JOKE! Review: Please DO NOT buy into this SCAM! I'm am well-read and always look optimize my skills, this was a disaster. I never take the time to write reviews but feel it's my duty to WARN you. if curious, make sure there is a money back guarantee. You'll still be upset, it's not even worth the cost of shipping.
Rating: Summary: Useful stuff Review: I'm not sure yet whether photoreading really works but I'm giving this book 4 stars for a couple of reasons
1. The tangerine technique. This has been an immensely helpful idea for me. I've read a lot of speed reading books but I still fall into bad habits like subvocalizing. Using the tangerine technique I've found I can finally relax and use all that speed reading knowledge I've gained elsewhere.
2. The layout of the books with the einstein characters. Wow - just imagine if all non-fiction books used this simple system. I would definitely have read all my books at least at the cycling level. Great concept!
Also, I've just tried the dictionary exercise and was mildly surprised at the results - definitely worth a try.
Rating: Summary: Don't photoread the reviews Review: Skim the book, scan the book, photoread the book, osmotically digest the book - you're a photoreader!! Even if you're not a photo-reader you're going to get through this thin and loose volume in not much time. Of course, the book is only part of the technique. Some tapes to improve the memory and change beliefs are going to be needed too. So where are these photo-readers outside the pages of Amazon? Where are the validated studies with the '5 star' reviewers zooming through a book and being tested on it the next day? Pls Mr Scheele - do a controlled test and prove me wrong.
