Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Don't Bother Reading This Book Review: According to Richard Montauk, a sucessful law career can only be acheived by graduating from an Ivy League law school. He isn't even practicing law at this point! Instead, he's taking the money of naive prospective law students. This book is not particularly well-written or helpful. The information it contains is nothing new or astounding. In fact, the only thing I really learned from this book is that Richard Montauk is an egotisical, money-hungry bore.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An excellent guide to getting into law school Review: Anyone who's thinking about applying to law schools should study this excellent book from cover to cover. Getting into the top schools takes a lot more than good grades, and this guide really pinpoints the areas to focus on during the application process. An excellent guide!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Top-notch info on the law school admission process Review: Applying to law schools can be a mysterious and daunting task. There are rankings, scores, essays, recommendations and numerous human factors involved. Sometimes the steps seem pointless and the decisions appear arbitrary. With this book, Montauk attempts to take some of that mystery out of the process by providing concrete information on what the schools are looking for and specific advice on how to give yourself the best chance possible. He succeeds admirably.I found the most valuable feature of the book to be the quotes from law school admission staff members at various schools. Virtually every topic includes input from admissions counselors and directors. And these aren't people from "Joe's J.D. Mill." They work at the top law schools in the nation. These are the people who make the decisions about who gets in to a top school and who doesn't. Their candid advice is invaluable. As a whole, the book is well-written and informative. Some portions may be redundant to people who have already done a significant amount of research on law schools and the admission process. But it's all good information and it's useful to have it in one place. While I don't recommend using this book as your sole source of advice, it's a fabulous starting point. If you're serious about going to law school, buy this book. It's well worth the price.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Richard Montauk: the stereotypical arrogant lawyer. Review: Don't buy this book. Many of the example essays are hilariously bad. I especially enjoyed the one by the caretaker of a disabled woman who "is the only person standing between her and a nursing home." Yeah, and now she'll be in a nursing home while you pursue a law degree. Good job, there!
I'm convinced that half the 5-star reviews here were written by Montauk himself. I have been through the law school admissions process. The advice in this book is generic at best. Save your money.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Helpful for a select few Review: Don't let this book scare you away from going to law school. Montauk suggests a JD will only be helpful for a career in law, yet he is now a consultant. If someone has Richard Montauk's address, let me know. I'd like to send him back this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Must Read for Pre-law Students Review: Finally I've found a book that provides solid advice about the law school admissions process! This book contains a wealth of useful information about marketing oneself, essay writing and the interview process. I also thought the section "should you go to law school" was provocative, though it hasn't discouraged me from applying. I highly recommend the book to other pre-law students embarking on the application process.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Everything you need to get into the top schools Review: Finally, a book that offers useful and comprehensive advice on getting into America's best law schools. How to Get Into the Top Law Schools covers it all, with help on choosing the right school, interpreting the rankings, positioning yourself and putting your best foot forward in the application process. Montauk deserves an "A" for effort and execution! I highly recommend this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Most valuable book that I have ever read about law admission Review: Having been in the law school application process for a couple of years, I struggled in finding the best way to strengthen my mediocre application. To tell you the truth, I have read quite a few books assisting students to apply law school. Spending less than $20 to buy Mr. Montauk's more than 350 pages book was surely the wisest thing that I did last summer. My personal essay writing wouldn't have reach into a new level without the good advice that he offered. Trust me, his book will impress you with its high quality and hands-on experiences.
