Rating: Summary: Give a Glimpse of the Actual Test Review: Being published by ETS, this book will give you a look of what the actual test looks like. This workbook comes with 5 (five) practice tests, all with reviews and explanations. I use all the practice tests, before I work with the ETS PowerPrep. Combined with PowerPrep, this workbook should give us some predictions of our actual score might end up.Although, this workbook is packed with practice test, it doesn't have thorough explanations on how to attack specific questions. So, you have to buy other books as a companion. I use Barron's as well as Cliffs, to be my companion.
Rating: Summary: Matches expectations, good for almost any PC Review: I bought this for someone who had to get a formal TOEFL certificate for further studies. It did the job nicely. The user interface (not the content!) is so basic you could call it primitive, but this is because it fits practically any PC that comes equipped with a CD-ROM drive, no matter what operation system it is running, no matter how slow the processor or limited the memory. Instructions are clear and even the technologically-challenged find this material easy to use. Good product.
Rating: Summary: The must have for everyone who wants to take TOEFL! Review: I encourage everyone who is going to take TOEFL test to try all the questions in this book. Good things about this book: - Firstly, the number of questions in the book is more than enough for you to practice. It contain 7 extremely useful practice tests. - Secondly, the questions are at the level of difficulty you will see on the real TOEFL test. - Thirdly, Unlike questions from other publishers, the question and answer choices in this book are very clear. - Lastly, it tells you the level of difficulty of each question (Easy, Medium, and Difficult). This is very useful because you can pin point the type of difficult question you will see in the real test. Things to improve: - Firstly, it's not computer adaptive. To get yourself familiar with the CBT test, try the POWERPREP software and free sample from ETS. - Secondly, ETS do not provide explanation for the correct answer which would have been very helpful for people who are developing their English skills. - Lastly, it does not sufficiently address the "writing" part of TOEFL computer adaptive. The adaptive test put a lot of weight on "writing", up to 17 points out of 30 from the "grammar" part. You should be prepared for the writing part in order to get good score.

Rating: Summary: A good FINAL Review of your knowledge Review: I found this book benificial for me since it gave me quite good idea on my TOEFL score. It coantains 5 actual tests and 1 extra test that coantain a sealed questtions and ansewr sheet the same way on the paper based test. Excellent for Paper based but only Good for the Computer Based test. Though this prep kit dont give any further explanation on Eng so u should have a good knowledge of english before using this guide, since it only help you know what to expect on the test.
Rating: Summary: very good but no explination Review: I have read this book and I found it very helpful for me to improve my score. However, if you want a book that will expalin how you should deal with toefl and has grammer, reading explination, this is not the book. This is only tests.
Rating: Summary: The best resource of TOEFL practice questions Review: I've reviewed this edition before, and you should be able to see my review below. I'm writing now to complement my previous review. This edition is essentially a re-packaged version of the previous edition, even if the cover and the graphics look different. This set is one of the most important sets of practice tests available on the market and is the second most important TOEFL volume to buy after the PowerPrep!! In other words, buy the PowerPrep first, then buy this edition for more practice. A couple of important points: First, the TOEFL is supposed to undergo major changes in 2004, so if you're not planning to take the test before then, you might not want to get this book. Second, this book contains very few explanations; one of the practice sections of this book has explanations, but TOEFL has used this same "explained test" in all of their publications since 1995. Finally, this publication does NOT contain any computer practice tests--you'll need the PowerPrep for that. The CD-ROM that comes with this set is only a tutorial--the practice is only a few minutes long for each section, and you will NOT get a score.
Rating: Summary: Never buy this book Review: In my personal opinion, I think for a foriegn student that would like to prepare for the Toefl exam, this book doesnt have explanations about any skills, only has exercises. Also I bought this book through the company ETS and the books didnt arrive until 3 months later. I had to buy other books for to study while I waited for the ETS books to arrive. Also if you dont like the books there is no refund policy from ETS. Better books to buy are Longman and Barron's. They provide better excersises and explanations.
Rating: Summary: TOEFL Test Preparation Kit (Book & CD-ROM) Review: The book will simulate the real TOEFL exam
Rating: Summary: Great TOEFL practice, but no computer practice! Review: The TOEFL materials from ETS are the BEST--they come with tapes, tapescripts, authentic scoring keys, and, best of all, REAL TOEFL QUESTIONS. You cannot prepare for the test without REAL questions, and this book has lots of them --you will get a good idea of what will be on the TOEFL. The problem with official TOEFL books, however, is that they do not give many explanations, they do not teach you grammar, and they do not give you any strategies to help you raise your score--they just give you the tests and you have to figure out what the test is like by yourself. This kit has a lot of TOEFL stuff for you to get started. For people who already have a pretty good level of English, it is probably enough. For example, you should take a practice test, don't cheat, follow the time limits closely, and find out your score. Whatever score you get on that test is your real score. If you score over 520, your English is pretty good. If you score over 600, your English is great and you can probably learn enough about the TOEFL from this set to get the score you want. It is one of the best sets of materials you can get, but you should get the new TOEFL PowerPrep software so that you can understand how the computer TOEFL is.
