Rating: Summary: THE Best to date for Complete Spanish Conjugation Review: My parents tried to speak as many languages as possible around me when I was a child so that I would be able to speak them fluently when I became older. It worked with a few--English, French, Italian--but not completely with Spanish. I learned to pronounce it perfectly, but not to speak it. So, now I have to learn it. When I learn any language that I have no background in whatsoever, I always want to be able to just say it, not think it in my native language and then quickly translate it--no matter how well I can pronounce it. Hopefully someday I will be able to do this with Spanish. But, when I started looking for books, I found this to be the complete guide for beginners: it settles almost all of the verb(al) grammar so that once you learn how it works, all you have to do essentially is learn new words and use them, not the concept. BUY THIS BOOK. You will not regret it.
Rating: Summary: The is a MUST for self-taught Spanish Review: I am a fluent Spanish speaker, and I take on jobs as a professional translator and charge ten cents a word. I have written articles for publication in Mexican newspapers, and I have done numerous live interviews of Mexican radio stations. I owe all of this success to this book. It is the most effective guide for teaching yourself Spanish that has ever been written, in my opinion. The problem with learning Spanish is that the grammar is radically different than that of English, and grammar is all about the use of verbs. So, like it or not, you have to learn to conjugate verbs and make this process a matter of second nature. You cannot use English grammar with Spanish vocabulary, or no one will understand you. And if you don't know how the system works, you won't understand them, either. This book - right there in the opening chapter, has the simplest and most effective explanation of the grammatical system that I have ever seen, and it made the whole subject become clear as a bell for me. After that, the actual use of the most important verbs is quite important, because you cannot simply translate their meaning. They are used in senses that are radically different from uses in English, and their meaning overlap. This business would be a nightmare to comprehend if it were not for a book like this, which explains all of this very clearly and succinctly, and makes a complicated subject seem easy. If you are serious about teaching yourself Spanish, you NEED this book. There is no substitute for it. Agarra la onda.
Rating: Summary: Ignore the negative reviews. Get this book Review: I do not understand the negative reviews. I am teaching myself Spanish, and getting this book was a breakthrough. I love it. I also use the Oxford Spanish English pocket dictionary. My other significant resource is a bilingual New Testament with the Spanish on one side of the page and the English on the other. I am always reaching for this book to figure out what tense was just used in a portion of Spanish text, and it has wonderful lessons on the verb tenses and how they are used.
Rating: Summary: There are better resources available Review: In its day, the original "201 ____ Verbs" series was a breakthrough, and a must-have for all languages students and teachers. That was 20+ years ago. Today there are better organized and better explained books available for the same price. My favorite is the Complete Handbook of Spanish Verbs. I give this one 3 stars. It's ok. It has not been improved upon in years and years.
Rating: Summary: Taking Spanish? Hate it? You need this book! Review: If you are taking a Spanish course and would rather be taking a math or anything not related to language study this book is a must.
Rating: Summary: 501 Spanish verbs- Handy reference & guide Review: 501 Spanish verbs is a handy reference for anyone who speaks Spanish. It is very thorough and contains samples of regular and irregular verbs in all thirteen tenses of the indicative mood and all four tenses of the subjunctive mood which can be studied to achieve and maintain correct verb usage. Since mastering verb control in everyday speech can be difficult, it is important to have a reliable source with diverse model verbs. The book also provides a brief but useful summary of grammar concepts that are contingent upon proper verb conjugation. 501 Spanish verbs also contains examples of usage of the model verb in a phrase and an idiom that exemplifies its usage in everyday speech. 501 Spanish verbs is a must buy in order to have confident verb control and it is a life long reference and guide.
Rating: Summary: 501 is the way to go! Review: 501 Spanish Verbs is an invaluable tool for anyone studying Spanish. I bought it half way through Spanish I and am continuing to use it through Spanish IV AP. I'll probably use it into college .The beauty of 501 is how clear and concise it is. Whenever I have doubts about a conjugation, I just flip to the verb and there's an easy-to-read table with the verb conjugated in all tenses. The consistant format makes this a no hassle book, as any excellant reference should be. In addition, there are cross references, lessons, and expressions throughout the book. If you're a student, buy this book, unless "la hada de verbos espaƱoles" visits you in your dreams some night soon. But how often does that happen? :)
Rating: Summary: Progressing Student of Spanish Review: I bought this book on a whim when i started learning spanish. Now, my beaten and battered copy is just as helpful as it was in the beginning. A book every student must have, and it's a great help for anyone else.
Rating: Summary: 5 STARS PLUS! Review: An excellent resource! This and my Random House pocket spanish dictionary are the two sources i use everyday in my study of spanish. This is one you can not do without...especially as cheap as it is. I have never failed to find the verbs that I need here in this book. Not only that but it serves dual purpose as a verb tense workbook with many exercises and also an additional 1000 verbs cross referenced with the 501 that are fully congugated in all tenses one to a page. The bottom line? If you are a student of spanish on your own or in classes you have to have this one!
Rating: Summary: 501 Spanish Verbs Review: This is a great book for helping you to conjugate your verbs! I use it more as a quick-reference tool while doing Spanish homework or in class. But it's also great for studying on your own if you're not taking a class as it has excercises with an answer key in the back, as well as some common phrases. Many of the Spanish teachers in my school have recommended this book to the students as a useful supplementary resource.
