Summary: Terrific book for work reading.
Review: I have never written a review before but thought that this would be a worthy endeavor for a first try. I was at first skeptical of any book or course that promised to improve my reading.

I read a lot for work but felt I was constantly behind. So I was pleasantly surprised that within a few days of receiving this book, I have almost doubled my reading speed.

Since completing the 30 day course I have an even greater appreciation for this book since my comprehension has also increased and my knowledge and ability to plow through my work reading has grown much easier and faster.

The description of the mind/eye process was also very informative and helped me really understand the process of reading. In fact, this book was loaded with great facts that made reading it interesting as well as instructive.

Summary: Think twice before buying
Review: I have recenlty become very involved in speed reading and techniques. I want to find the best means out there. I bought this book (and CD) because of the great reviews; it seemed recent and good. However, this is not a book about speed reading! It is about getting more from your reading experience- i.e. some speed and some comprehension. It is filled with techniques about how to read a text, how to take notes, how to learn, and other such "learning" devices. If you are looking for a speed reading book, this is not the one. I would recommend this book to a high school or new college student. It is really just a general approach to learning and reading. There are some interesting "facts" stated in the book (such as the brian's ability to only reach 900 wpm) but no earth shattering technique to help with speed reading is provided. Nothing! As a matter of fact, the book spends so much time trying to challenge the reader to continually do the practices, it forgot to provide some meaningful practices and techniques.
I don't doubt the author knows somethings about learning and reading... but as for actual speed reading, it is a disappointment.
I have recenlty tried EyeQ and found it beneficial in the sense that my eyes feel much stronger and are able to read more for longer amounts of time. Speed increased; but nothing earth shattering, yet. Good program to start with.

Summary: I highly recommend this complete education tool!
Review: I highly recommend this complete education tool. I have doubled my speed and comprehension and enjoy reading once again. The pace of the course was great and wished it was available when I was in school. I feel this book should one day be a school text book and that is why I have passed it on to my grandchildren with full endorsement.

Summary: I really like the course with the CD!
Review: I purchased the Power Reading book with the CD (I found this package under "all editions") and saw that not only did my reading speed increase, but more importantly, my comprehension increased too!

This course makes so much sense and makes learning to speed read enjoyable. The author has put a lot of research into the course including really useful study techniques that I have already put into use in my homework and classes.

I think the investment in the combination course book and CD package is well worth it as the CD made taking the course easy and straighforward. I advise anyone who has lots to read to get this course. It's great!

Summary: Very excellent book
Review: I took a reading speed test before reading the book and measured my reading speed at 210 words per minute. But after a few hours of reading through the book, I managed to increase my speed to 790 words per minute! And that is almost over 300%!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Impressive!
Review: I took longer than the 30 days it reccomends. But as someone who never thought this was truly possible, I am impressed! Applied effort required.

My results were an incredible increase in comprehension and a growing speed increase. Absolutely worth the buy!

Summary: Overvalued book
Review: I've just read the book twice and cannot see why it should be the best book around ( as the ad says )about speedreading and comprehension. Although it is readable and organized, Power reading is not definitively a new method for reading a book, for the very simple reason that all the tools here introduced are easily found in others books on the same argument ( I've read some ), save for the importance set on the use of vocabulary . Actually Power reading gives space to certain parts of of the reading process, but then it misses to dedicate adequate space to other important aspects as the eye movement or the note-taking ( poorly explained ). Last but not least, seen that it costs more than other books on the matter, I would suggest to try some others.

Summary: *SPOILER WARNING*
Review: If you're looking for a good speed-reading instruction, look elsewhere. This thing reads more like a remedial literacy class at a learning annex. Allow me to completely ruin the book for you. Spend the twenty bucks on a CD or bargain DVD.

There are basically three "strategies" you will get out of this book:

1.Have some clue as to what it is you're reading.
2.Make notes
3.Read with your finger (or similar indicator for following lines of text)

The first actually wastes half of the book (and a good deal of your time) expounding; the second, your high school English teacher should have nagged you about already; and the third, I personally found helpful just on my own, but makes you look a tad slow (in mental capacity, if not reading speed) if reading a book in public.

Want to know this book's one and only magic speed-reading secret?

Read something for a little while. Now read it again faster. Now read it again FASTER. NOW READ IT EVEN FASTER. Repeat daily.

So go spend your cash on renting the movie adaptation of any novels. Audiobooks will let you absorb books while in the car or, if you have one of those nifty shower CD players, while you get ready in the morning. Sparknotes.com is always good, too. That's how I POWER READ.

Summary: Dive into Ocean of Power Reading
Review: It is said " For the mind's nourishment, reading is essential. Minds feed on minds. When you read, you grow with its riches" In the book of Alvin Toffler, the world famous author of 'Future shock' and the 'Third Waves' have mentioned that the world has poised at the brink of a Third wave, in which the power of the machine would be replaced by the power of mind. So, this is Information Age where the role of computers and communication is leaping ahead for modern advanced age but to master the skills of computing and understand or adopt the new technology, one needs to Read between the Lines! Power Reading by Rick Ostrov is one book not to miss digging in the stuff n exploring the power it reveals. It is said, an average reader can read 300 words a minute. In seven days, the person can read 31,500 words! Books vary in length from 60,000 words plus and so in one year of average reading by an average reader of 15 minutes a day, at least one can read 12 to 15 books a month. John F. Kennedy was the fastest reader and if you follow the Instructions of Rick Ostrov in Power Reading, it does help in Speed n Comprehension and of coz,the effects are tremendous in mastering the tricks of trade. Cool Pick, I should say - The most valuable course handy around.

Summary: Great book -- absolutely worth the money and time
Review: It took some time to read and digest the book. But it's absolutely worth the effort. After reading the book last year I began conciously applying the techniques taught in it everyday, such as using regulator to guide the reading, previewing and reviewing, and reading sentences chunk by chunk instead of word by word. It really worked! My reading speed and comprehension level are both tremendously increased. The most invaluable thing I got from it is the good reading habbit. I didn't measure the exact speed by word per minutes because different types of materials are different. But I can definitely feel I'm much quicker to absorb new information and learn new technologies in my work. As an IT consultant, this is absolutely important and gives you a clear edge over others.
