Summary: Good book
Review: This book was a OK dog book. They have over 400 dog breeds, but they don't tell alot about each dog. For an example one dog may have a HALF of page worth of information - and another dog has two pages worth. To me, that's not very fair. Like I said before, it's an OK dog book.

Summary: This is "The" Dog book
Review: This is a great book. History of dogs in general as well as breed history. Great photography in a well written easy to understand book. You cannot read this book in one sitting. A wonderful reference. It helped me in selecting a breed that would go best in our family and our setting.

Summary: Good book
Review: This is a really great book. But you have to take into consideration it is an encyclopedia. It gives a general idea of each dog, but occasionally neglects the rare breeds of dogs. It's good to have along side another book, but it really isn't for in depth studying.

Summary: The BEST dog book out there!
Review: This is an excellent book for dog lovers all over! It has many breeds in it- all of the common breeds, of course, but it also has popular growing mixed breeds like the bichon yorkie, and many very exotic sounding dogs like the pharoah hound. It shows the anatomy of the dog, and there is guide in it about how you should care for your dog. Each breed has a history next to it, and it tells you the personality of the dog and what its needs are. It also tells you what diseases or disorders that run in each breed, which is very helpful when you are deciding what breed of dog you want to buy. There are gorgeous photos and an incredible amount of information about dogs in this book. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in dogs!

Summary: Wonderful breed reference
Review: This is by far one of the most colorful and informative dog encyclopedias I have seen. Many rare breeds are covered that most books do not cover as they are not AKC. I own Shiloh Shepherds and a King Shepherd and this is the only book that has either one in it. DK books always have beautiful photography as well.

Summary: Necessary for all dog lovers
Review: This is one of the most well written and informative books on dogs that you can purchase. It includes full color pictures of over four hundred breeds - everything from the Puli to the Poodle, the Ibizan Hound to the Basset Hound. Each breed is complete with a description of size, colors, temperament, and physical characteristics. There are also sections on the history of dogs, general care of dogs, breeding, health, getting a puppy, etc. Dr. Fogle leaves nothing out. If you are a dog owner or simply love dogs, this book is essential to your home library.

Summary: great for breed variety but text less informative
Review: This is overall an excellent book which includes about 500 different breeds, far more than other similar books I have seen. However, the texts are brief and not very informative. The symbols (which indicate a breed's temperament, grooming needs) are ambiguous at best. e.g. When there is no symbol indicating whether a dog needs room to run, does it mean the dog has no such need? Basically, one can get an idea of the size, look, origin, and original purpose of a breed from this book. For any information beyond a one-sentence summary, one must find another source.

Summary: The Dog Book For Those Who Just Want To Know Every Dog
Review: This is the Coffee table book for every dog owner. Once you guests pick it up they will be lost among the 400 breeds illustrated in magnificent color. As a dog owner and breeder for 50 years, I found hundreds of dogs I have never seen before. Rare breeds they may be here in the U.S. but many of them are the result of their need in the countries of their origin. I strongly recommend this beautiful book to any dog lover who wants to round out their knowledge of dogs of the world.
