Summary: The finish on Finish
Review: This is "The" book on finishing. The most comprehensive and yet understandable book written on the subject. I've personally owned it since it's first publication and have been too busy using it, to ever comment or write about it. I even reference it for my woodworking students. Mr. Flexner does a great job of breaking down finishes by type, ease of application and use as well as appropriateness of same. Worth every cent and then some.

Summary: Excellent book for beginner and intermediate woodworker.
Review: This is an excellent and very detailed book on a subject that is often a little dull. It covers the complete spectrum of choices and at the end I could make better choices on the matter. I would recommend this book to any woodworker beginning to intermediate level.

Summary: The Upmost Book On Finishing
Review: THis is it fellow woodworkers/finishers to be. This book just tells it like it is. Need not look any further for a better book on this art. It covers everything and actually keeps you from wasting money on those "Mystery" finishes by telling you how to make your own. pLenty of great truths in this one.

Summary: There are better books
Review: This is the fifth book on wood finishing I've read and it has some good information but it is not the top of the pack. I much more enjoy the books by Jeff Jewitt entitled "Finishing", "Hand Applied Finishes," and "Great Wood Finishes". A picture is worth a thousand words and the Jewitt books are loaded with high quality pictures and excellent discussions of the various finishes, stains, and dyes. This book has mostly low quality color images on low grade paper. It is hard to evaluate a finish when you are looking at a lower quality image. Your mileage may vary but I need a good image to make an informed decision.

Summary: Money Well Spent
Review: This was a good purchase. The book, over 300 pages, goes step by step through the process for a great finish. Buy it, you'll like it.

Summary: Must-have for anybody finishing wood
Review: What can I say that the others haven't already said? The book is outstanding!

The manufacturers of wood finishing products would love to keep us in the dark so we'll believe anything they print on their cans...Flexner clears up the mysterious marketing mumbo-jumbo so you know what these produts can _really_ deliver. All the popular finishing materials and techniques are covered. I used to hate the finishing step of my woodworking projects, but I'm starting to enjoy it...now that I understand the process.
