Rating: Summary: The best technical guide you can buy Review: This is an absolutely fantastic technical guide for German AFV's in the period leading up to the Second World War, and prototypes by the war's end.The finest Encyclopedia I have ever bought, and terrific for modeling AFVs too. Every Ausfuehrung for every tank is covered in great detail, even captured enemy AFVs with those variants are described. An absolute must for anyone serious about the German Panzertruppe in World War II. I only wish this came in a hardcover edition, I would pay anything for that!
Rating: Summary: Quite Simply The Best Review: This is quite simply the best military text book I have ever read (and I have read many!) This book should be a compulsory purchase for anyone interested in tanks and/or world war two. It contains every tank, armored half track and armored car the Germans designed during 1933-45. The information has the best layout of any military text book (on any subject) I have ever seen. It clearly and concisely describes all the relevant technical data and has a brief description of history, specific features and combat sevice. Each vehicle is described in detail and illustrated with a wealth of pictures. DO NOT MISS THIS REPRINT!
Rating: Summary: Great Reference To WWII Armour Review: This is thee best reference book to the weapons of the Second World War. It shows the design specs and historys of each vehicles development plus battle history and equipment specs. Must have for anyone interested in war and its machines.
Rating: Summary: Truly an Encyclopedia! Review: This is Truly an Encyclopedia! It's full of goodies for the armor enthusiast. It includes a glossary that gives the German abreviation, word, & English translation of many terms. Each Pz Kpfw 1-6 (Tanks) has its own section with all of the varients, armored APC's, Half track's, & wheeled vehicles are all represented with all the info you would expect. There is even a section on non-german vehicles in Whermact service. Tons of pictures with numbered captions are presented. This is the book for you if you want to learn a fair amount about the many different German vehicles of WW2. This book will give you your money's worth & then some!
Rating: Summary: Without equal Review: This reference is without peer. For the enthusiast, gamer, professional historian, or anyone else with an interest, this is by far the most complete, interesting, and authoritative book ever published on German AFVs of the period. Exceedingly well researched, extremely well illustrated. Wonderful data on construction, performance, manufacturing history, operational history, and unit markings. Why, the appendices alone are worth twice the price of the book. Purchase it now before it goes out of print again.
Rating: Summary: Complete, yet disappointing Review: Truly an encyclopedia of German tanks and AFV's during WWII - meaning a large number of subjects covered with very little detail for each. Despite covering every armored (no unarmored half-tracks, no kettenkrad) vehicle ever even reaching prototype stage, the book left something to be desired. There were no color photos and I was hoping for analysis of the combat effectiveness of each vehicle with perhaps some first-hand comments about the vehicle. In short, a good reference for historians, but not very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: informative and well illustrated Review: Yes, this is perhaps THE reference to have on German panzers, panzerspahwagen, sturmgeschutz, schutzenpanzerwagen, and sturm- artillerie. Every, and I mean every, vehicle in series production and prototype form, as well as those produced in occupied countries and captured from enemies, has an entry in this book. Modellers, wargamers, and military history buffs will find something here. One might wish to visit the PANZERTRACTS website, however, for hyperaccuracy. This series corrects some inaccuracies in the Encyclopedia by referring to primary sources. The Encyclodpedia is still more than adequate for most.
