Rating: Summary: Signing for Kids Review: I am a hearing mother of a deaf child we have order two copies of this book for our parents and have recomended it to several of our friends. This book is wounderful, because it has the picture as well as written words telling you how to do the sign. Both grandmothers are learning some signs form this book. The reason I only gave it four stars is some of the signs are old and not been updated.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT FOR PARENTS WHO'D LIKE TO TEACH A CHILD Review: I have a 3 year old with speech delays and he is beginning touse signing as a means of communication. This book gives excellentpictures and descriptions for an adult who needs to learn simple everyday words and gestures through sign language. I know my child will benefit through my purchase of this book.
Rating: Summary: Great for Beginners and Parents Teaching Children Review: I ordered this book to help teach my two year old sign language, as a way to communicate better. The pictures are easy to understand and the discription is very helpful. You are also able to find the signs quickly. I love it and haven't been able to put it down. I hope that the whole family will be signing soon.

Rating: Summary: Not right for kids Review: I purchased this book after taking a course in signing for my twins. I was looking for a short book with basic signs that we could use everyday. The publisher seems to have missed the mark on what signs kid would want or need in a simple signing book. For example the section titled "Snacks and Food" has 42 signs, but doesn't have the word vegetable, or any sign for any vegetable. Instead, what they do have is a section of 30 signs on religion, including such everyday usage words for children as "resurrection", "missionary", and "devil". A number of words in this category are helpful including "God", "church", and "prayer", but for the most part the book has a lot of words that adults think children should learn and not nearly enough words that children would use everyday. My suggestion would be to buy a real dictionary from a different publisher that has all the words you will be looking up.
Rating: Summary: Cool Book! By Em Review: I work for a non-profit organization that does enrichment programs after school for children in grades 1-6. In one of our schools, there is a deaf child with a full-time interpreter that has created an insurmountable level of curiosity and an awareness of ASL that has caused much excitement at that school. We asked that interpreter a year ago to teach ASL classes for our program and she gladly excepted because so many children asked to be taught so they could communicate with the deaf child. The classes have been filled ever since and we currently employ a deaf teacher to teach hearing children. I found this book while searching and bought it for my daughter who is a very good signer in less than 8 weeks! I am recommending this book to all the parents of children who are in these classes because it is as easy as the very basic beginner books, is more informative, and will grow with the child. (It's also less expensive!) I highly recommend this book.

Rating: Summary: Cool Book! By Em Review: Not 5 stars because I have nothing to compare the book to. Signing for kids- neat book, and good pictures. I've learned all of the food words-I skipped animals. The animal section doesn't really need to have so much detail, maybe instead just cat, dog, pet, zoo, etc. Obviously tons of words aren't in it, but overall it's worth it! When you understand a group of signs, you feel great. Fun for kids who have no relation to the deaf- I don't! You'll be satisfied if you get the hang of it! (If you don't TRY, you won't have fun...you can't just think you'll understand it all once you use it once-or twice-or...)
Rating: Summary: Excellant 1st signing book Review: This book is an excellent book to begin to learn simple ASL signs for all ages. I had checked out of the local library and then purchased as it is a wonderful resource for me to teach my 2yr old signing in order to communicate (he has severe developmental apraxia). I would highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for parents Review: This book is excellent for parents of children. Our child is developmentally delayed and dosen't speak. With the help of her therapist and this book we use signs while we are speaking to her to help her better understand the words. Our daughter now knows four signs and uses them regularly.
