Summary: Still using it after ten years....
Review: A teacher in high school required that my class purchase an earlier edition of this book, primarily to help with our senior-year research paper. Since then, I've used it as a guide for resumes and letters. Now, ten years later, I'm back in college and using it yet again. Writers INC is indispensable for college-returnees like me, and should be in every high-schooler's locker.

Summary: Avoid the paperback - spend a little more for the hardback
Review: As an English and Special Education teacher I've found the Writers Inc. books to be a very helpful reference book for my students. However, the hardback versions are better organized and easier to find information than the softback. So, spend the few extra dollars...to get the better book.

Summary: An Invaluable Resource
Review: Before I reached high school, I thought that English books were the most boring books in the world. When I was assigned to study from "Writers Inc" in 9th grade, however, my opinion changed drastically. "Writers Inc" may be an English book, but it is so helpful and so fun to read that it doesn't seem like one. In addition to having sections for the writing process, personal writing, subject writing, creative writing, persuasive writing, academic writing, research writing, and workplace writing, it also has a student almanac that contains important dates, maps, scientific/mathematical info, government, and language info. The most helpful part of the book, though, is the mechanics section. "Writers Inc" contains a handy guide to proofreading that will be indispensable to students as they learn to improve grammatically -- I know that it has taught me a lot about using the correct syntax. The centrality of all of the "rules" to writing is worth the price of the book alone! Of course, you'll learn a lot from the rules, but you'll also learn from how the book teaches you to adapt your writing to fit a certain purpose. There is even a section devoted to writing better book reviews! :-)

As you can tell, I am very happy with this English textbook -- so happy that I went out and bought a personal copy. "Writers Inc" is simply an invaluable resource for learning to write well. I recommend that school administrators use it as the primary English textbook at their school, and I recommend it to all students wishing to improve their English skills (certainly something that no human is perfect at). Even though I may be an English geek, please take my advice and read this book . . . there is something for everyone to learn.

Summary: By far the best
Review: By far the best writing tool you could (and you most definately will) ever need. It's concise and comprehensive, and a must-buy. It has a feature which I think is hard to find: it's updated to deal with todays media, such as television and the internet. I even used it to write this review. :)

Summary: Must Have!!
Review: Here I am at 23 years of age and STILL using this book (the copy I have is from 1990). It has come in handy through college, job hunting and just about anytime I am going to write anything. I am finally going to replace my tattered copy with a newer, updated version. I can't wait!

This book does a fantastic job of covering everything from how to write and critique a paper, how to cite sources, editing, organizing, writing letters from complaints to resumes, how to prepare for taking a test and more! The best part is that it is so easy to read and skim!

Summary: great for students
Review: I am a high school student and I have used this book for almost every assignment I have writen. Being in 9th grade I don't know how to do everything in writing yet, and Writers INC had clear instructions and definitions to help me understand how to do something. I would strongly recomend this book for high school.

Summary: Awesome Student Reference!
Review: I am a highschool graduate who hated English. My spelling is terrible and my grammer is even worse. My freshman English teacher introduced me to this book and I feel in love with it. I soon puchased my own copy and have used it very often ever since. My Writer's Inc. has helped me in the past and is going with me to college.

Summary: An incredible reference book!
Review: I am currently a senior in high school, preparing to spend the next four years of my life at a college working towards an English degree of some sort. When I formulated this goal in my mind, I knew I would need a guide. Following the advice of my teacher, I picked up this dandy little book, and I can only say one thing: what a big help it has been! The section devoted to the subtle nuances of the English language, such as the differences between eminent/imminent, lay/lie, who/whom, that/which, etc., is well worth the cost by itself! In addition, the book provides lucid guidelines and step-by-step instructions for writing a letter, report, summary, or any other genre of paper.

Put simply, this is a book every English geek should have.
