Rating: Summary: Great Choice for SAT I Preparation! Review: I highly recommend the book "Boot Camp for Your Brain: A No-Nonsense Guide to the SAT I." With the help of this book, my child raised her SAT I scores by a total of 300 points. Her final combined SAT I scores put her in a much better position for applying to her first choice in colleges.
Rating: Summary: boot camp Review: I highly recommend "Boot Camp for your Brain: A No-Nonsense Guide to the SAT I". I used this book in combination with a course and saw a tremendous increase in scores. I was never a terrific test-taker, so when my first and only high school SAT I score came back so high, I knew it must have been because of this book. I went from a 48 Verbal, 68 Math on my 2000 PSAT, to a 620 Verbal and a 780 Math on my Dec. 2001 SAT ! That's a 240 point increase. Boy, was my Mom impressed. The exercises and information in the book were laid out in such a way that I could easily understand the material and keep "on task". It was very logical and easy to comprehend. I have recommended this book to many of my friends. One of them refuses to give it back!! On a 5-star scale, I would definitely give this book a 5. I really think that if you use this book correctly, your scores will increase as mine did. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: This book raised my score 200 Points Review: This book acually gave things to learn and tips, not just one or the other. The focus on latin words gave me the ability to find the roots of most SAT words, gave me the ability to break down new words and deduce what the word ment instead of having to just memorize thousands of definitions. The math section taught me how to do problems and how they worked instead of just teaching the method to find the solution. I put in very little effort and got so much out of this book. Most SAT books I dealt with took a great deal of time and energy to be effective, this one didn't. By the time I read this book, most SAT books were giving me 10 to 20 point increases, "Boot Camp for Your Brain" gave my SAT score a 200 point increase.
Rating: Summary: Efficient AND a useful tool Review: Growing up nowadays is a lot harder than most people think. Colleges expect more than ever, our parents and teachers push us beyond our capacity, and we're trying to find ourselves amidst all this. Getting into college is one of the biggest pressures of being a teenager today, and having a high enough SAT score is not exactly something I want to worry about. Using this book I learned what and how to study for the SAT I. I didn't have to study massive amounts, just enough every day to make sure I knew the information. This book really helped, and I went up 160 points. My score is a 1320, and I plan on taking it one more time to see if I can improve again. My highest recommendations for Boot Camp for Your Brain: A No-Nonsense Guide to the SAT I.
Rating: Summary: This book raised by score 210 points Review: Having used the information in this book, I highly recommend that any student planning on taking the SAT I test buy this book immediately. The information in it has been gleaned from years of study of the SAT itself and covers every type of problem likely to be seen on the test. My scores jumped 210 points after using the book as a study guide. I got an 800 on the math section and a 730 on the verbal section for a combined total score of 1530. I strongly believe that these high scores were a key factor in my being admitted to my top choice colleges. I could not have done it without this book, which is the comprehensive authority on taking the SAT.
Rating: Summary: An intelligent guide with a sense of humor. Review: Want an intelligent handbook for SAT I preparation? This is the book. It distills the wisdom of someone sincerely devoted to improving the scores-and, hence, the college admission prospects-but more importantly, the skills and confidence-of those high school juniors and seniors confronting their future. Ms. Manning's personal impetus for this "no nonsense" approach to SAT preparation was a best friend who scored a perfect verbal score. She decided to raise her own scores-by keeping a notebook of all the words she encountered but didn't know-and did improve by 200 points. The book is filled with similar, practical, and effective techniques for mastering the skills and building the confidence necessary for SAT success. My daughter took the SAT preparation course upon which this book was based. Her personal goal, which she achieved, was to score a combined 1500 SAT. There's no magic bullet, as this book is quick to point out. But an intelligent guide-and one that keeps the proper perspective and sense of humor-is indispensable.

Rating: Summary: 140 point increase....the program worked! Review: I decided to give this program a try after scoring 1170 on the old test...after a focused three to four week training and learning period using this book and attending classes with Marcy Manning I was able to increase my score 100 points verbal and 40 points math for a 1310.
