Summary: not a complete review for the exam
Review: I passed this exam today but not by much. This book was of some help but I may have been able to pass without it. The art section was probably the weakest part of the book. The book only had about 8 paintings, the exam had about 20. The lit section was OK.
Overall, this book is a good place to start but you should not count on it for everything needed to pass the test.

Summary: Kathy M.
Review: I rate this book only "average" for a CLEP preparation text. I purchased the new edition, and compared it to a 1995 edition, and found the two versions to be almost identical -- with few updates. However, I did find the CLEP Preparation for the General Exams to be much more thorough than this text, and would strongly recommend purchasing that preparation guide, rather than this edition -- if you want to pass the Humanities Exam.

Summary: Not enough information to study for the exam.
Review: I used this book to study for the General Humanities test and found most of the information was NOT on the test. Only a few questions pertained to information covered in the book.

The art portion was totally useless. None of the artists or paintings/sculptures that were on the test appeared in this book.

The text went over in great detail literature - specifically poetry, and I did not have any questions on the exam that pertained to this information either.

Summary: Excellent Guide
Review: I was initially intimidated by the CLEP exams and didn't know which study guide to use. On a whim, I picked this up. I found the information easy to reference and very thorough. During my preperation for the test, I found other study guides and noticed that majority of those instructed you on how to take the test without providing a lot of detail. To say the least, I passed with a 580. I'm getting ready for the Social Science exam and have been using the same author's guide. I suggest this guide to any one planning or in the processing of studying for the test - GOOD LUCK!

Summary: One of the better CLEP books
Review: I've taken 6 CLEP tests and have used many study guides. I found this one to be the most comprehensive of all subjects. It's a great reference.

Summary: An excellent study guide !
Review: Loved the book. 1. It covers the humanities clep only, (not part of a huge, thick, all encompassing general clep series).

2. Provides a summary of things/terms to know. This is what's lacking in most other study guides that only give you Q & A.

3. This is the "exam cram" of the humanities test guides.

Summary: I passed
Review: Not much info from the book is on the test. But I passed so maybe it's worth it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good foundation
Review: This book had some information in it that was useful on the test, however, you still need a halfway decent knowledge of authors and genres to pass. I have to admit it was still helpful in looking up a few test questions, though!
