Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Very Helpful Review: Not much to add that any of the other reviewers haven't already said, just another recommendation.
I found this book extremely helpful, especially the general outline section that does a quick summary of the history of literature, art, music, and architecture. Because of the broad nature of the humanities test, you will have to find some additional material. If you plan on taking more than one of the general exams, I highly recommend REA's General CLEP exam study guide(which includes a CD-ROM), and CLEP Success 2004. Art history books with pictures are helpful, but may not be necessary since many of the questions are based off of well known works, but DK publishing had some good general books that fit the bill nicely.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: GOT TO HAVE Review: I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS BOOK. IT GAVE ME A VERY CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE TEXT AND EXAM. THIS BOOK, WITH SOME ELBOW GREASE MADE STUDYING A POSSITIVE EXPERENCE. IT USED CLEAR AND EVERYDAY WORDS, WHICH I FOUND VERY HELPFUL. IF U R TAKING THIS TEST, GET THE BOOK.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good Starting Point... Review: I had a bear of a time finding this book, as it seems to be the only available one solely devoted to the CLEP Humanities exam. I finally found the book and used it, along with several other books, and my knowledge of trivia and famous poetry, novels, paintings, etc. to study.Last Friday I took the test and got a 73 on it. It was taken via computer and the scores range from 20 to 80. I needed to get above a 50 in order for my college to accept the test in lieu of 6 credits, so I was very pleased and happy that I passed. Remember, the key to passing the CLEP Humanities is to know as much as you can about poetry, architecture, paintings, novels and short stories, etc. There is no way that anyone knows everything, but if you have a mind for trivia, like I do, you will do just fine and this book can be a big help. There were even a few questions on my exam directly relating to the information I gleaned in the book. I already sold my book on Amazon within hours!

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: You'll need more Review: I had hoped that studying this book would give me insights and a basis to answer a good percentage of the questions on the exam. Yet, less than ten percent of the questions on my test were over material covered by this book. Fortunately. I had a broad background and am an excellent test taker and I passed the test, gaining six credits. However, more than half the questions dealt with art and authors I'd never heard of. Over all, I THINK this book helped a little, but not as much as I would have liked. (DON'T COUNT ON THIS BOOK TO GIVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO PASS THE EXAM.)

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Great review book however, support it with other material Review: I just took my first CLEP test this morning. I had NO prior exposure to the subjects covered in the Humanities CLEP. I used this study guide and supplimented it with "Oxford Illustrated Encyclopedia of The Arts". I also used the 4th Edition "Cracking the CLEP". There was very little material on the test that I didn't recognize. I did MUCH better than I thought I would have since, before now, I didn't know Dante from Adam. This was a huge confidence builder for me.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good foundation Review: I passed the exam with a good grade thanks, in large part, to using this book. In addition to this book, I did some further study on opera and literature. For the CLEP I took, this book did cover about 90% of the questions listed.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Good book but not for its intended purpose Review: I passed the test but not thanks to this book. It is interesting and well written, unfortunately most of the material covered does not appear on the test. Rely on your own general knowledge, i.e. read books, magazines, and watch PBS.
