Rating: Summary: If it's good enough for them... Review: " I must admit that I bought this book because I had read that it was the only MBA preparation book that has been supported and sponsored by Goldman Sachs, Mckinsey, BCG, Bain and some other leading companies. When you get hold of a copy you soon realise why they backed it. It's about as comprehensive as a MBA book can get (more than 600 pages written in small fonts!) - perhaps there's even too much information - and the fact that it's been written by MBA graduates makes all the difference"

Rating: Summary: Worth every cent Review: ... my recommendation is that you get this book. if you use it correctly, it should boost your chance of getting into a better b-school – it’s a small investment compared with the salary you can expect at the end of it! Beware: this is a huge book... (about 600 pages written in small characters) so it’s not the for the faint-hearted! Loads of useful information and insider tips. you can tell it was written by successful candidates – the writer of each chapter gives the tips he used to get admitted to his school. Their essay advice is good value, and it was way easier than getting in contact with alum for insider help.
Rating: Summary: Definitely focused on these specific 10 colleges... Review: A thorough digest, if the schools targeted in your applications are among the schools focused in the appendices and are ranked in the top ten. Focused on full time MBA programs, for someone seeking schools offering part time MBA programs and in the immediate vicinity for convenience's sake, this book did not fit my bill. The "Ranking by Location" chapter does not possess the same degree of attention as the "Ranking by Salary" chapter. Multiple spelling and grammatical errors were found. However, this publication must be lauded for its concise format...for someone with limited time, the gist was easily communicated. Definitely useful in material to get you into the business school of your choice, but the b-school of your choice is not necessarily everyone else's top b-school. I must admit that I was disappointed by the lack of other relevant information in regards to application strategy...there can definitely be an abridged version of this book.

Rating: Summary: Best Book on Admissions Review: Amazon has dozens of books for applying to mba programs. I found the Kaplan and Princeton books a bit superficial, Montauk's is not bad but a little outdated, and this is the best one I've seen. It was published recently, so all the rankings, data and school essays are up-to-date. The essay advice section is particularly good. The book is twice the price of any other, but for such a competitive process it is well worth it.
Rating: Summary: Everything you need to know.. Review: Applying to MBAs is no walk in the park. When i started the application process, I felt I had a couple of weaknesses (notably my GPA) and that if I didn't compensate, my chances of being admitted were quite slim. My GMAT teacher recommended me this book. Basically, this book has given me the savvy to boost my strengths and minimize my weaknesses. It contains about everything you need to make the best of your application: it's reassuring to read hear everything from the horse's mouth - successful candidates & admissions directors. The bit I've worked on the most is a self-marketing model from a guy who worked at P&G - really helped me define an overall marketing strategy. I'm looking at it as an investment that should (fingers crossed) pay dividends later on, given the difference in salaries between the top MBAs and the also-rans
Rating: Summary: A complete all-rounder! Review: At last! An MBA book that tells you what you need to know without any jive! You, like me, must have spent a long time trawling through MBA guides looking for pearls of wisdom from people in-the-know... I think Ive found the answer. The Edge is to-the-point, packed with all the latest essay questions, with stacks of top-quality essays to exploit, and it's up-to-date (which is more than can be said for Montauk's book, huh?). I waited to get accepted to business school before sending this in because if too many people get their hands on this book the competition's going to get even steeper. Good luck guys!
Rating: Summary: Poor research, poor edits, and not insightful Review: Beware of this book -- it lays out specious arguments about getting into b-school which are likely to get you FLAGGED by admissions offices! The book is sloppy, poorly researched, and much of the material has been pulled from Business Week articles. Don't bother -- I did and it was a BIG waste of $ and time - both of which are precious when apply to b-school. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: Don't be a Sheep Review: Bottom line: I'd expect to pay less for a book filled with typos, aimed at the international student, filled with advertising (at least 30 pages), and lacking profiles of all of the top schools. PROS: - If you're an international student, it has some valid input for you. The sample essays and so on are more relevant to you. - It's yet another take on the same set of schools. If you're looking for a fourth opinion, then why not? CONS: - Poor paper quality - Sloppy editing - Lack of a consistent editorial voice - Too expensive compared to other books in this genre - Filled with advertising - Leaves out too many schools - 40% irrelevant to the applicant from the United States
