Review: This is a great book if you (like most people) find mnemonic devices very helpful and an effective way to learn (especially vocab). The focus is on mnemonic devices, which are sometimes silly, which actually increases your ability to remember them. Every word has a definition, device (including a story or a picture), warnings of confusion with or connections to other words. The book really understands how to teach vocabulary to maximize comprehension and recall.

The words are listed with seemingly unrelated anecdotes or fictional stories, but once the students read through this "non-sense", they are amazed to find how many words they do remember after weeks of study. This is much better book than other books that just list words, definitions, and non-fun senteces. The vocabulary level, however, is lower than that of other SAT prep. materials. The best book for a beginning student of SAT.

Review: this is the greatest word learning book ive ever seen, im a teenager and before bed i glance at a word and read the tips on how to remember it and ITS STUCK in my mind!!when reading books i can point out difficult words that i know because of the book...A MUST BUY if you want to increase your vocabulary and do good on the english part of your sat's

Summary: This book could kill you...
Review: When I got this book in preparation for my PSAT, I knew right away I had made a mistake. The concept behind this "revolutionary" book is to get you to associate words with a situation or mental picture the book provides for you. The problem is that one finds themselves taking one step too many in memorizing both the mental picture and then the definition. This takes way too much time (time you don't have an abundance of on the verbal section of the SAT). Another easy trap to fall into is to simply memorize the picture and forget what word it's associated with. Looking at some other reviews, I see this system is working just fine for some people (meriting its two-star rating). I just find it sad that so many people are willing to memorize information that will not help them in the long run. If you want to commit an act of mental suicide, pick up a copy.

Review: When I was taking the SAT in 9th grade I didn't think I was going to do that well but when I got the 100 SAT math tips and 500 SAT words and how to remeber them forever prep books they both contributed to my 1300!

Summary: Great for homeschoolers
Review: When my daughter was in the 10th. grade, she was homeschooled.
We purchased a set of curriculum, which of course, included
English. I wasn't satisfied with the vocabulary portion of it,
so I used this book. I gave her 10 new words each week and we
both had so much fun learning them! The illustrations are great
and they really do help you to remember them. Every week when
tested, my daughter always got 100% correct. A few years later,
my son was homeschooled for the 7th. grade. Out came the book
again! I also use it to look up words, before reaching for a
dictionary. Having a good vocabulary (and using the words you
know correctly) is very important and I would recommend this
book for everyone.
