Rating: 4 stars
Summary: good book
Review: this is a very good book. i haven't taken the SAT yet, but my scores jumped 200 points from the first time i took the psat to the second time. there really can't be anything better to prepare with than real tests. I reccomend this book to anyone that is preparing for the test, and it's not that expensive.

Summary: The Book You Need and Hate.
Review: As a current college student, everyone hates this book. Including myself. But the best way to get through the SAT's is with the use of this book. Its the hated book that is needed most. One can't do better without it. Good luck, get through it and look on the bright side, you only have to buy this once, and use it once.

Summary: Wonderful Book (As it should be)
Review: Well, big surprise, as it comes from the test makers themselves--- this book is invaluable. I STRONGLY recommend it. The tips sections are not bad, but the real value is found in being able to practice on actual tests. My score improved 120 points (to a 1460) after using this book to prepare...Good luck!!

Summary: Very helpful
Review: This book is extremely helpful and straightforward. Taking actual SATs is the best test preparation you can do. However, the CD-ROM is poorly designed and not worth your while.

Summary: Required to Increase Your Score
Review: Some students will ace the SAT no matter how little they study. The rest of us are dependent on a myriad of study tools if we intend to get something about 500. That's "10 Real SATs" is required for any high school student.

This book won't bring you from a 700 to an 800. That is more about the last ten years of school, and how good your teachers have been. But it can assist in going from a 600 to a 700, or even a 450 to a 600. Those numbers make a difference between a mediocre college and a top university.

Part of doing well in any test or competition is knowing what's ahead of you. What better way than practice tests? You'll see where your weak areas are, and how long certain questions take you.

For example, when I took the GRE (like the SAT in many ways), I was convinced my best score would come from the verbal portion, and my worst score would come from the math section. The opposite was true. The verbal section took longer for me, as I considered each question thoroughly. Not being a math whiz, I was able to see quickly which question I couldn't answer, and dwelt on the ones I knew. The math section went better because I knew my limitations better, and thus, balanced my time better. You'll learn this kind of thing from taking these tests.

Taking ten SAT tests doesn't seem like fun. It isn't. But if you are serious about increasing your score, and have the fortitude, buy this book and break out a fresh pack of #2 pencils.

I fully recommend "10 Real SATs." You'll take the SAT with more confidence and better results.

Summary: Must buy
Review: First of all, I am not an intelligent kid. Infact, I scored extremely poor in my PSAT (bottom 50% nationally.) So the day I got my scores I decided I wasn't going to to the same thing on the real SATs. I've read Kaplan, Barron's, Princeton, Rea, Arco, vocabulary builders, and I gotten the Ten Real SATs. I've studied my brains out; and it helped. I scored Math : 610 Verbal 560 and I plan on taking them again in October. I've studied over 100 hours just for the SATs and I'll tell you as succinctly as possible how to raise your score. Buy 10 REAL SATs, Princeton's Review, Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis, Peterson's SAT Word flash 2002. These books will be a LIFE SAVER. That is in order, so if only want to buy 2-3 books, get those. They will, if you study, raise your score dramatically. I plan on getting in the 1200's next time I take the SATs, and it would be absurd to say that if I didn't have the motivation or these books.

also

If you are planning, or wondering what it takes to get in top tier schools; I suggest, 'College Admissions Trade Secrets' by Andrew Allen. This book will motivate you and show you, what you need to do to get into your 'dream school.'

I can't stres this enough; if you actually want to raise your SAT scores, and you are serious about it. This is a MUST HAVE book.

Summary: Recommended by professional admissions consultants
Review: We strongly advise all prospective college applicants to purchase this book. All of our college admissions consultants agree that there is a difference between the official questions you will be asked on the exam and the practice questions contained in all other books.
While some of the tests included in this book are pre-1995, when the SAT was recentered, and thus making them not nearly as useful as the book could be if it were updated, we still recommend this guide as it is the only one of its kind to feature actual questions. This book remains the best guide to help simulate actual test-taking conditions.

Summary: Recommended by an SAT Prep teacher
Review: I am an SAT instructor for a national test prep company, and I use this book in my classes. There's nothing better than REAL test problems for students who want to improve their score. For those of you who are not taking a test prep course and are self-motivated enough to prepare on your own, this is the book to start with. If at all possible, try to time yourself according to the section you're taking to get the full "test effect."

The only drawback of this book is that it does not give you detailed explanations for each of the questions. I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 specifically for this reason. Other than this, however, I have no qualms whatsoever recommending this book to EVERYONE who plans to take the test (and is serious about getting into the college of their choice).

Summary: Fantastic Book
Review: The first time i took the test i got 1290, but basically it was because i did not take it seriously and was bumming around during the test.

I bought this book and made it a point to do one test every saturday and saw my score shoot up by leaps and bounds. from 1360 to 1450+, I saw the dramatic improvements. Though other books claim to have similar test prep questions, nothing beats this. But if you are thinking of dramatically improving your verbal score, i suggest you get the Kaplan workbook and the 500 SAT words book as well.

It was really worth the money i paid for it, roughly S[$], which is rather costly though.

Summary: Best source of SAT practice BUT
Review: not the best self-help tool since there are no explanations given for the correct answers. I am an SAT tutor and if you are looking for self-help materials, I would recommend supplementing 10 Real SATS with Kaplan Verbal Workbook and/or Kaplan Math Workbook and/or the Princeton Review Math Workout and/or Princeton Review Math Workbook. If you are weak in math,I'd advise both of the math volumes since they attack the material from different angles. When you have used these to get yourself test ready, use the 10 Real SATS book to practice actual tests (whose Math sections are somewhat easier than these practice books, and whose verbal sections are somewhat harder.) But whatever you buy...be sure to USE the books or you will likely see little change in your score. Good luck!
