Rating: Summary: Takeoff With This Book . . . Review: . . . and you won't want to land. As a pilot (SEL, gliders, hang gliders and paragliders) and a skydiver (D-454), I find this book to be absolutely delightful. Dave English has researched nearly one thousand quotations, divided them into 13 categories and brought the words to life in an exquisite hardcover book. This collection will delight every pilot and will make an EXCELLENT GIFT. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com

Rating: Summary: Great Gift! Review: A treasure! My all-time favorite quotes on flying and many more that I'd never seen before. Hours of enjoyment, came back to Amazon.com to get another copy as a birthday present for my Dad. Really a unique find.
Rating: Summary: A must add to any pilot's library! Review: Finally, all the great aviation quotes are in one volume. Dave English's book puts all those quotes that pilots hear all the time, yet are hard pressed to remember, at one's fingertips. I bought half a dozen copies for Christmas gifts....they were greatly appreciated. This is one aviation reference book that will not be collecting dust!
Rating: Summary: Required Reading for Pilots.... Review: Flying is a PASSION and "Slipping the Surly Bonds" is a great book for anyone who shares that passion....This is a must read for pilots or ANYONE interested in flying or connected with the aviation industry. It is NOT a " sparse, flowery book of aviation poetry," - it is a very thorough book of aviation history in the form of various quotes. I would estimate that there are approximately 1000 quotes contained in this easy to read format. This book makes a WONDERFUL gift for pilots and those who have always been fascinated with flying. However, unlike most books that contain a few poetic lines on each page - this book centers more around historic and literary quotes. Although it is more than a "coffee table" book, it is certainly a book that would easily interest most guests. "Slipping the Surly Bonds" is divided into 14 areas and has an index for easy referencing. Areas of interests include: First Flights, Magic and Wonder of Flight, Air Power, Combat, Predictions, Piloting, Safety, Space, and Women Fly and more. As a female Vice President of two small Aviation Companies, I have often searched for gifts for pilots, etc. who have been difficult to buy for. I have never gone wrong when purchasing this book as a gift.

Rating: Summary: Best Quotes on Flight any were Review: I am a student pilot and currently have 42 hours, reading the quotes in this book inspired me and truly did capture the enchanting feeling of flight. This is a must for a new student pilot with out any hours or a retired airline Captin.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL AVIATION GIFT Review: I bought this book as gifts for my rc- aviation friends and it was an instant hit! This book makes an awesome bathroom quote book- or a lovely coffee table book. It is small but thick. A great read. I gave it 5 stars, but I will say that I expected pictures to go along with the great quotes.-this is just a minor flaw. Most probably wouldn't expect pictures anyway. The words inspire scenery in the mind by themselves. Definitly worth the buy!
Rating: Summary: Collection of Aviation's Greatest Quotations Review: It started as a little list on the Internet. Back when CompuServe was big, and I was playing with Netscape 2 Gold. The list grew. Folks somehow were e-mailing me from all over the world. I added, corrected, read more books, played with the web page. The list grew into a real collection of aviation and space quotations, bits from books and movies, and a long list of cliches. Then one day Len Morgan -- 'Flying' magazine writer and former aviation book publisher--wrote me and said it should be a book. Turned out the people at McGraw-Hill agreed. So here are 230 pages of the best from Armstrong to Wright, from balloons to rocket boosters to Richard Bach. Bite-sized quotes on flying, airplanes, and being a pilot.
