Rating: Summary: The best in MCAT Prep Review: I studied independently using only these materials and scored a 34 on the MCAT. The only other book you may need is "16 Mini MCATs," also by Exam Krackers.
Rating: Summary: good quality, but... Review: I thought this book was very high in quality. I especially love Salty, their "character." Salty tries to make everything seem fun and it is fun. It has prepared me well for this August exam but I did not study enough so I will probably take it again in April 2003. If that's the case, then I should if I get their 1001 series too I will surely get a prefect score. :-)Good luck with your studies. And don't forget, use only Examkrackers if you want to get a perfect score! Do not use with other books--the horrific kaplan, princeton, columbia, berkeley review books has too much fluff--stuff you don't really need to know and it's a waste of time to try to memorize all that useless stuff. Ok, again good luck! May the force be with y'all. :o)
Rating: Summary: Definetely buying them Review: I took the April 2004 MCAT and scored only a 20 after spending $1,000 on the Kaplan test prep. This only served to give me loads of dissapointment and to wipe the idea of Medical School off my mind. Nobody likes spending that much dough and time to get a mediocre score. Last summer my best friend went to New Jersey to get ready for the MCAT's and was given the Examkrackers books, when she got her scores she had gotten a 27. That's amazing for a student out of Puerto Rico which is expected to get a 23 as the highest possible score. I've also heard of two guys from my university who got over 30 using the Examkrackers and are now both studying in top Medical Schools in New York. I'm planning on buying these books for the April 2005 MCAT, all of you doubtfulls listen to the reviews its proven that they work. I'll post again when I take the test and get my scores. Happy Studying!!
Rating: Summary: Comprehensive and Easy To Read Review: I used the EK set almost exclusively during my self-prep for the April 2004 MCAT. Here is what I thought about the sections. Biology was excellent, Organic was very good if you already have a good background in the subject, and Physics and General Chemistry were both very good, however, look to other sources for review over the topics of heat/energy/thermodynamics; those topics are presented poorly by EK.
Other than the last problem, the entire package was an excellent value and totally helped me get down all the science I needed for the test, on which I ended up receiving a 38 (11VR, 14PS, 13BS).
Rating: Summary: this is what you need to score high Review: I was a little worried that these books were not going to be as good as everyone said they were. I read reviews everywhere on the internet about how great they were, still I was worried. Well all I can say NOW is that I am glad I took the chance. I have learned more from these books than I have with my kaplan book and Prince. Rev. course I have taken, simple, simple simple! Anyway, I'm now looking to buy those CD's (Audio Osmosis) by examcrackers which I hear are excellent as well. Go for it people, don't look any further, I sure as hell did and spent tons of $ and time doing it! Why can't other books get to the point, I wonder if their objective is to fill our heads with junk we really don't need?
Rating: Summary: ExamKrackers or Kaplan? Review: If you're a pre-med student you've likely heard rants and raves (and maybe a few jeers) about both ExamKrackers and Kaplan. Is ExamKrackers better than Kaplan? Not necessarily, just a bit different in the approach to teaching the material and methods. ExamKrackers books provide a bit of humor. As such, ExamKrackers books tend to do a great job at maintaining student interest. On the other hand, some students may get nervous that the relaxed, joking attitude may affect their scores negatively. What's your personality type and learning style? Like a bit of humor? Go for ExamKrackers. More the serious type? Go for Kaplan. ExamKrackers also has a great website at which you can ask the author questions. A great resource. Yet another benefit of ExamKrackers is that you can purchase books for separate sections. Are you a science whiz and only need work on the Verbal and Writing sections? Or, did you major in English and are weak in Bio? No problem. You only need to purchase the ExamKrackers books on those subjects which you require.
Rating: Summary: Ignore people who say they used their textbooks to study... Review: MY STORY:
Lets start with my score on the first MCAT I took... 13. (8V, 3PS, 2BS) My score on the MCAT of Aug/03 was 35. (12V, 12PS, 11BS) I am not that smart but at the moment I am at Georgetown School of Medicine with a scholarship and I owe it completely to Examkrackers. I never took a prep course and I also only took 32 hours of science courses ever. I was a finance major.
HOW I PREPARED:
I studied at a bookstore for the MCAT and in addition to having my textbooks, every widely available MCAT resource, and every esoteric text I could buy on Amazon, I bought all the examkrackers stuff. I also bought the past exams available from AAMC. After the first month, I realized using anything but Examkrackers stuff and the AAMC stuff was detrimental to my progress. I spent around 450 HOURS STUDYING and taking practice exams. My practice exams came from Gold Standard, Kaplan, Examkrackers, and the actual past exams from AAMC. You should take a practice exam every week but only trust your scores from the examkrackers and the aamc's. The rest are just practice.
MY ADVICE:
TEXTBOOKS?!? If someone tells me they used their textbooks to study, I wonder if they have even been to the AAMC website. Look at the content description for the MCAT!
Examkrackers is the only company that covers the stuff on the MCAT with great detail and ignores everything else. They also keep it interesting with illustrations, jokes, etc. Want proof? Why hasn't Kaplan changed their books or the content of their prep course (that course is a joke) after the AAMC changed the content of the MCAT? Examkrackers is interesting and it provides you with a plethora of questions to practice.
If I had it to do over again, I would buy the past exams from AAMC (a must, you are cheating yourself if you don't) and everything possible from Examkrackers (the CD's are a must too). After doing that I would look myself in a room with them for around 400-500 hours and then sit the exam. This is a guranteed recipe for success.
MY WARNING:
You may be successful doing other things or spending less time studying but let me warn you that nothing is more time consuming or expensive then spending an extra year in college or doing some lame research because you couldn't get into med school on the first try. Dish out the money on these prep materials, put in the time and you will be in med school in august.
Rating: Summary: Great Product - got a 40-42 Review: Recommend this highly - only had a few books available to study, used the o-chem book and the audio osmosis set and wished I had all the other books - cannot recommend this product too much - got a 13-15 Written (or whatever the reading section is) 13 Physicial Sciences, and 14 Bio on the MCAT - and I never took an O-Chem course until after I took the MCAT.
Rating: Summary: Great study package!!! Review: These set of books are a great way to study for the MCATS. I recently finished a degree in computer engineering and decided that I wanted to study towards becoming a doctor. I have very little biology and organic chemistry background and I find these books to be clear and concise, with great diagrams to aid in making the reader understand the material. I have so far only went through the biology book and so far, my studying has been going very smoothly. Hope these books work as well for you as they have for me. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: Holy COW Review: This gives you exactly what you need, and nothing else. It is a great condensed format that if read in full will prpare you for anything on the MCAT. I wish I had these book when I took orgo or physics, t would've helped me in those courses.
